floppy on psr2000 a bit flacky

Is it my problem? Or does the PSR2000 have a flacky floppy. I record a song then copy it to floppy and it acts like it is copying it. Shut off the machine and when I use the floppy to get the song it's not thier. However, when I do another song and record it to the same floppy when I save it shows up. I rename the new song and save then turn it off and when I power on again the songs I saw in save mode are gone.. Just wondering... What I do now is use one floppy per song and it works that way...

Here's something you might try....load both floppies into your pc, then copy both onto one and stick in the 2K and see what happens.

Beachbum, if you use the floppy a lot, particularly playing midi files, or play in a smoke-filled bar room or nite club, you have have to clean the drive. More often than not, the heads are the problem and they can be cleaned with an inexpensive floppy disk drive cleaning kit. They're available at most computer stores and sell for about $10.

If this doesn't solve the problem, you may have a defective disk drive. I had to replace one on a PSR-740 last year, but believe me when I tell you there is nothing to it. It took longer to remove all the screws from the keyboard's case then it did to replace the drive. It's nothing more than a standard floppy drive and the replacement drive cost me about $12 at the local computer store.

Are you saying if I should ever need a new drive for my PSR2000 I should be able to get one locally for $12? I thought there was a comatibiliyt thing and one needed to use a Yamaha drive. My only concern has been about the disk drive. Although I have never heard anyone report a problem with the 2K drive, I think since it is much more mechanical in operation that the possibility of it going out is greater than any other reason. I have NEVER seen a portable stop working and I think the 2K will be no different. The ones that have had problems I figure just got one out of a million, or more likely are much rougher on it than need be. I base this on a lifetime of playing out and being in music retail since 1976.

It's a standard floppy disk drive, one that's available for under $20 at any computer store. So far, my 2000s and current 740s have held up remarkably well, especially considering that I play in a lot of smoke-filled bars where you can cut the smoke with a knife. This environment trashed my first 740's floppy. When I opened the case, there was a thin layer of brown cigarette smoke tar on every component. I took the floppy to my local computer guy and he pulled one off the shelf that was an exact match. The first words out of his mouth were "It's just a standard floppy drive--nothing special."

The same, exact drive is what is also in the 2000, and I suspect lots of other keyboards. If your floppy ever does crash, and some will eventually die, they are easily replaced.

It reads files just fine. However, sometimes it acts like it's saving the data. You hear it writting to the drive. Then when you try to access it it is gone.. IF I take a newly formated floppy with nothing on it it saves fine..I'll figure it out..
