You can edit the files using notepad; the format is a bit strange but you get used to it.

Be aware that your spelling of bank / section names must be absolutely identical wherever the name turns up otherwise it won't be recognised.

The editor inside cakewalk is not stunning but you can drag-and-drop stuff about so you can build a composite file from lumps of similar ones, as a start point, and then export / refine / import that definition later.
