How do you write "Instrument Definitions"??? - 09/02/06 06:45 AM

Does anyone know how to write "Instrument Definitions"? Is it something that's hard to do? I can't find any on the web for my Roland RS-70, and I'd really like to have them for Cakewalk. I can use the standard GM1 and GM2 sounds, but I want to use the preset patches too, user patches, drum patches, and user drum patches as well.

Anyone ever do this and have any tips?

Thanks,

Squeak,
Basicly it is just text, so you can edit/write with word.

To get a hold of how it is done in a fast way, just download the G1000.ins patch for cakewalk and open the file with ms word.

If you look at the contents of the file, you learn lightning fast how it is done!

Probably you can use the G1000.ins for the G70 with some editing.

oops forgot to mention ..
You need the midi chart of your rs-70..

Somehow I read G-70 instead of RS-70.

You can edit the files using notepad; the format is a bit strange but you get used to it.

Be aware that your spelling of bank / section names must be absolutely identical wherever the name turns up otherwise it won't be recognised.

The editor inside cakewalk is not stunning but you can drag-and-drop stuff about so you can build a composite file from lumps of similar ones, as a start point, and then export / refine / import that definition later.
