I mean really - it just looks a little silly to see someone push a button and suddenly sound like Frank Sinatra's full orchestra - it always has and it always will. All that's needed is some basic backing like drums/percussion, bass and light jazz guitar comps. 50 styles that emulated a small tasteful combo would be excellent.
I totally agree! Except that I would not limit it to jazzy stuff.
Often, when I use midi's, I turn off most channels and it's down to what a 4-man band would play. Add me playing over the top of that base and it's a 5-piece band. There are a few songs that I use the entire huge band sound because the midi or style is just so good, but a few sounds is much more real.
