I switched my keyboard from the super old Korg i3 to the new PA-80 for obvious reasons.

I feel your pain about not able to control your "band" when you change styles. That was the very first thing I notice when playing with the PA-80. My Korg i3 has separate volume sliders for drum, bass, accomp, kbd1, and kbb2 tracks. I could easily turn anything off by quickly pull the sliders all the way down - worked great in situation when the singer could not follow my rhythm.
Why did they decided to take these off on the PA80, I don't know.
