Hi
At the yamaha-psr-styles forum, this problem of background noise (hiss noise) at PSR 2000 is under discussion as you can read in the under posts.
I had noticed the same hiss noise on my previous PSR740.
Can someone in this forum give some contribuition to clarify this problem?

Thanks
Carlos Rodrigues

Hi all,
I recent bought a PSR2000, at time of buying my dealer didn't have it
with software version 1.2 so I borrowed one until he got a new
shipping with keybords holding version 1.2 and not 1.1 as was in the
one I borrowed.

So I got the new PSR2000 with version 1.2 and I discovered that this
Keyboard actually has an error/bug, turned on with out playing there
is a low 'white noise' from the speakers. This noise appearently does
not go through the amplifier as it does not change when I change the
amplifier volume. This noise it not to hear through the head phones.

Has any one observed this too, and do you know Yamaha's position to
this i.e. will the repair it under the warranty and how long time
will it take ?

Thanks in advance
Dan

Hi Dan,
I have a version 1.10 and also it has the hiss noise
exactly as you describe. My PSR 740 (I had before the
PSR 2000) also had this noise. Looking at the electronics
schematics we can see the cause of this hiss noise:
There are per channel two OP (operational amplifiers)working
as an active filters and one Integrated Circuit (IC) working
as a fixed equalizer, before the power amplifier,
that cause this noise.
As the actual noise is more or less the same level as my
precedent PSR 740, which also had that devices I thought
this was normal. However as you refer that you had
one borrowed without that noise, I'm surprised.
In this case I guess that the OP or the IC have internal
default quality transistors that cause that noise.
However I guess will be dificult to find the OP or IC with
internal low noise.
I hope to hear more comments about this point.

As you have played the two releases (1.10 and now the 1.20)
can you tell me if you notice some differences in the two
releases. I am in dificultiy to decide for the upgrade
as mine 1.10 works properly and I don't know any bug
that 1.20 version solves. And as you know the upgrade
involves an dificult des/soldering operation of two EPROMs.
Can you tell us whose bugs 1.20 solves?

Thanks
Carlos Rodrigues

Dan/Carlos,
I too have exactly the same problem. I had presumed that this was
normal. It can't really be heard when the keyboard isn't being played
and it didn't get any louder when turned up, or played through an
amplifier. My OS is version 1.10
If you find anything out, I would be interested to know.

Thanks, Paul.

My 2000 also doesn’t have any noise. It was one of the first received in the USA.
Steve

Perhaps my ears don't work so good, but when I turn on the PSR2000, I
don't hear any noise coming from the speakers. I have one of the
early 2000's with the initial OS.

Hi again,
sound interesting, looks like the tolerances of the systems are pretty
narrow. I, of course gets a bit uncertain whether the my previous
keyboard, with OS 1.1 really didn't have any background noise but I
feel pretty sure.

To Carlos: I must admit that I, at present haven't observed any
differences with repect to software capabilities. I simply insisted on
getting version 1.2 as I knew it was the current version.
I haven't so far seen any clear listing of the differences between the
software versions. As far as I remember some of the improvements were
in the area of registration settings/saving.

Back to the noise issue: My keyboard teacher once told me that the
first series of keyboards (YAMAHA) normally comes from Japan, and
later on the production is outsourced to some where else. Furthermore
some optimisation is done as well. Our background noise could be a
side effect of this optimisation.

Has amy one of you approached YAMAHA on this issue ?

My teacher has a PSR2000 too, an I will ask him tonight whether he has
the hiss noise. He got one of the first serie here in Germany so a
qualified guess would be that he does not have the noise... I will
keep you posted.

Best regards
Dan
