This iconic music innovator died July 6. His masterful melding
of modern structures, South American rhythms, combined with lyrics by Jobim and that haunting, wonderful voice of his sister Astrid (Girl from Ipanema)changed my entire outlook on music and shaped my next 50 years. Add Stan Getz and all those wonderful Sergio Mendez tunes. One listen, and I added classical Brazilian guitar to every gig.
