Has anyone heard/played/bought the new SD1 or is it still too early?? I'm desperate to hear it and am considering trading my VA7 and P80 for a combined 76 key board, either 9000PRO or maybe SD1.
Having once owned a PSR9000, I'm a bit reluctant to go back to Yamaha.

Thanks for any help.

Brian.

Hi Brian,

You own a P80 (PA80?), and a VA-7, and you are from UK like me (you are from Scotland I see!)

If you payed the retail price for the two keyboards mentioned, then that will have cost you £2,099 for the VA-7, and £1,399 for the PA80 = £3,500 ish. Well, i would think about selling your keyboards private first, rather than "trade" them in for ONE keyboard. The pro version of the psr 9000 doesn't have that many advantages over the non-pro, so I would think carefully here.

The VA-7/3/5/76 are all a bit of a "Novelty" type of keyboard I would say (good sounds maybe - but not easy to use "live".

If you want a pro 9000 model for £1,999 then here is a place I visit often: http://www.starland.co.uk/pages/kia/k30.htm

The Yamaha pro would be the better of the two choices, but you are trading a lot in for just the one keyboard. If it's a 76 key keyboard you want then so be it!. I wouldn't bother waiting for the VA76 though - unless you like the VA-7 and just want the extra keys.

Jupiter5 the P80 is a Yamaha P80 not a Korg PA80. If you were not impressed by the PSR9000 I would surely wait for the SD-1. Read Dan01's comments about the SD-1. He played it at NAMM and says it is awesome. It should be worth a listen. Tom

I have a SD1 on order. Should arrive in 1-2 wks.(IHOPE) My local dealer played it at NAMM and was very impressed. I loved the X1 and the SD1 could only be better, you would think? Wait for the SD1, I think it's worth the wait.
Good luck

I still don't know how much this solton SD1 is!/costs - how much is it? ($$$or£££..I will convert the prices)

If it is around the £2000 bracket ($2,922) check here for currency conversion: http://www.argonet.co.uk/glencall/curr.html

....Then I may consider it myself if it is as good as people are saying. Just don't tell me it cost $5000 dollars that's all I said the Yamaha 9000 pro was a better choice, but if it's too much like the "psr" then you won't be getting much more really...except some slots to add more sounds that is, and 12MB more Rom for Drums/Piano etc...It's a tough decisian, but I haven't heard the SD1 at all - so I'm only going by what people say - and what people say doesn't always suit me! does the SD1 have a sampler? - I think it does if memory serves me right. but What about resampling? - and how good is the acoustic Piano on the SD1? -as good as 9000 pro/KN6500? - if so, then it's definitley worth a look - even if it isn't going to win any beauty competitions!!

No speakers? well, I have an hi-fi system with pro-logic on - and 100 watts + 100 watts RMS. would an HI-FI system be suitable for amplifying the Solton SD1? - It would be for home use only by the way

Thanks Tom for the correction re: P80

regards

Tony

Bryan and Tony,
I have the SD1 in my store in California. Many of my X1 customers have come in and played it for hours at a time. Not a single X1 owner wouldn't like to trade in their X1 or just have the SD1 as another keyboard. It has many new features and most of the X1 features. However, some players do not want 76 keys and would like to have speakers. The SD1 will sell for approx. $3200.00 in US dollars. Some dealers might be higher, I doubt if any will be lower, but this is great news for most, because it is really no more expensive than the X1 with a hard drive and a vocal harmonizer added and the SD1 already has these features standard.

Hi Brian,

I did order the SD1 2 weeks ago and expect the get mine in about 2 weeks.
As soon as I can I'll give my impressions on this GREAT forum site.
George and other friends already put several detailed reports a few weeks ago.... These reports are the reason I did order, without seeing one before.

Dear all,

Thanks for the advice guys.

My local dealer made me a trade-in offer, my two boards plus £500 will get me the 9000pro itself. I asked him why no-one sells Solton keyboards in this country. Apparently, since they are relatively unknown compared with the bigger fish, they won't sell as easy. Yamaha and Roland have it way too easy here.

As you can see getting hold of an SD1 for example aint gonna be too easy. Hopefully there will be demos available to download so I can decide whether it's worth the bother or whether I'll just take the easy way out and settle for the Yammy........again.

Yours frustratedly,

Brian.
