Hi Donnie...Thanks for asking about the jams...These are Monthly one night music jams...One Jam is weekly 5 miles from my home which I partner with a close friend A Harmonica player and Vocalist. I Emcee the evening. The other Jams are within a 20 mile radius from where I live. Most are 6-9 PM with donated food and snacks...All with their personal touch. We average 10 Musicians up front running 4-5 vocal Mics. Lots of guitars Fiddle player, Piano, Base player and drummer...Also people come up from the audience to sing with the players. We use a signup tablet. Last Home jam we had 20 on the signup...70 people total...Good Time for sure....20 Years ago when I stepped away We averaged 200-300 People a night! Hope this gives you a clearer understanding....Thanks Harold

Harold, with the proper promotions, lots of legwork, you can make all this work, and possibly get back to the numbers of the old days.

Unfortunately, audience demographics change with time, something that I began noticing more than 50 years ago. For the most part, I was able to compensate when I was performing in the nite club/restaurant/bar circuit. I transitioned from a pawn shop acoustic guitar to a 6 string electric, and later to a 12-string Yamaha, which I loved the sound of. When arranger keyboards became available, I again transitioned, then expanded my audience base by adding more diversity to my repertoire, going from primarily country music to light rock, big band, swing, light jazz, show tunes, etc...

As my audiences grew, my old band mates, whom all stayed with country and bluegrass, began losing their audiences. They refused to change and within a few years, they were no longer playing.

The main reason I left the nite club/restaurant/bar circuit was for financial reasons - they were paying the same fees they paid 40 years ago. I then transitioned once again, but this time to the senior circuit. Great audiences, nearly every job was mid day or early evening, the pay was great, I was home every night for supper, and able to make enough money to put together a small, but adequate retirement account.

The only reason I retired was due to my failing health.

Good luck - I know you can do this!
