I am trying to make my S970 as much of a do all board as I can. I have MP3s on my USB, but need lyrics as a text file.

I wonder if it is worth the trouble to try and convert PDFs and download lyrics, as I have them on my laptops. If so, I need a PDF to text converter.

It would be so easy to just take my kb and speaker to small venues.

If you do this, be aware of the line length limitations on the PSR. It does not automatically break lines of text, as the Korgs do. It just cuts them off when the maximum length is reached.

Thanks Don

That makes it even less appealing. I appreciate the heads up. Eventhough I would like to pare down, I guess I don't have to get down to my skivvies.

It actually works very well, and there is a free program on PSR Tutorial that will size the text files for you. I think Michael Bedesem did it.
I have had several nights lately where I didn't even boot my laptop. Any lyrics I needed were on my USB stick and called up by the S970.

Bernie, from a Korg Pa900 view – do not own a S970 yet.

Midi files have the lyric follow. On the Pa900 when I use an audio file (MP3) I use the Song Book – like your registration on Yamaha. I save the MP3 and lyrics with the same spot in the Song Book entry.

I tested the limitations Don spoke about. Typed out the lyrics in simple text format; loaded the lyrics into the keyboard. I found there was room for 38 digits across; may vary in Yamaha. I arranged each line so that the lyric would complete its thought – even if I had to put just three words and go to the next line. Placing chords into the lyrics is another story. With the chords placed before the word in prentices the page took more effort to follow.

Bernie, this takes some effort but after a few tries it’s not too bad.

Thank you gentlemen for your further enlightenment. Maybe I will give it a go after all.

John
I received mine about a week and a half ago. Great fun.

I think the result will make you glad you did it. I haven't "corrected" all my text files, but in reality I only need the text occasionally as sort of a guide, to prod my aging memory as to how the next verse starts.
And you can change the text size to allow a longer line display, as long as it doesn't get so small you can't see it well.

all my lyrics are in TXT format on a USB stick in the S970.....occasionally when I need an obscure request lyric I'll call it up ..
for all other registrations songs I have the TXT file linked to it if I have memory lapse simple to do.

I took your advise Don and glad I did. My procedure was rather painless. Now, I am speaking only of MP3 files, as I have a slew of Midi Karaoke songs in USB.

I found the lyrics and printed them, then scanned each one with the OCR software in my Brothers all-in-one printer as .txt, proofed it and saved to a folder. No manipulation of text necessary as there were in a vertical orientation that didn't exceed the horizontal limits.

I don't have the lyrics linked automatically, but it is simple to select each and go.
Thank you
