It will be 2017 or 2018 before we even hear rumors about a Tyros 6 right?

You are hearing a rumor as we speak! smile
I think there will not be another Tyros. I think Yamaha may finally make a significant change. Just conjecture though, I have no reason to think this other than my advanced intelligence level.

It certainly would make sense to sell just one keyboard that was capable of accepting upgrades...be it hardware or software.

This reminds me of the IBM stance on computers way back in the beginning. IBM said the money was in building computers and hardware. Microsoft maintained that the money was in software.

Somewhere along the line some Company is going to market an arranger that is really upgradable, and only excepts that company's software and hardware .

When that happens, that company will be the new Microsoft of arrangers/keyboards.

You may be right. I think I'll just check with Liontracs, or Gem, or several other companies whose names I can't quite remember. hmmmm.

I would think some of the new features, like perhaps the DJ function and live knob control, would make their way to the next Tyros model. Yamaha is trying to appeal more to the younger generation and be more ethnic diverse in this changing world.

The new S970 audio styles and most of the others have the same name as the Tyros 5. The S970 Data List PDF shows the style list, but doesn't specify the audio styles, but generally they are listed at the top of each category.

Any new S970 owner will love the new DSPs like the Real Reverb and Distortion. The Real Drums and Real Brushes kits are really nice too. I see more of the Tyros 5 choir and vocal voices found their way into this new board, and more than likely into the styles as well. I see a few new style names, especially the DJ styles in the World style category, more than likely to be used with the new DJ feature.

I would think the nice light S970 would be a very good value, but I think just as important is what features made there way into the S970 from the Tyros 5. Have fun whatever board suit you.

It's hard to find an S970 demo using anything BUT the audio drum styles. Why is that? Maybe they make the midi drums sound even worse.

Personally, I like the audio styles on the S950 - really sound great, at least to me.

I agree Don,.....I guess they are targeting the younger audience and don't want to show their great OOM Pa Pa styles to them and ruin sales marketing...I'm sure Yamaha has done extensive research and know what they are doing to make money like they always have....arranger KB's are a minuscule part of their company.
personally I'm satisfied with what they have out now. BIG changes sell gear not these little baby steps model to model IMO.
