Can anyone who has played the PA800, or Yamaha PSR series (Not Tyros), or Roland E50 please give me a comparison between those keybeds and the one on the PA600?

I have played those listed, but before I think about trying out the PA600 I would like to get opinions.

And no I cannot just go to a store to try it myself, as the nearest one that actually has one is a 7 hour drive away - a bit far JUST to try a keybed action out wink

Oh and if Fran or any other experienced Roland users read this, I would also ask if they can advise on the same comparison, BUT with regard to the Roland BK-5 and not the PA600.

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi Miden.
I used to have pa800,and Bk5.Now I have pa600.To me BK5 had the best keybed.Pa600 is not as bad as pa500,but to me bk5 was a little bit better.Better then S910.

Hi Miden

I own a PA-600 and have had a couple of PSR keyboards

(psr-s900 and psr-s500)
I would say they are very similar.

Perhaps the 600 has the edge.

Dennis, I will give this a shot...

The BK5 keybed took a bad rap initially from of all folks ..PSR users smile

The concensus being PSR's are the worst of any current keybeds.. grin

The BK5 is not dramatically undersized..the keys have more width than PSR's (Actually only half inch in 5 octaves compared to the G70)..lenght overall of keys is 5 and 3/16 inch..about 1/4 inch shorter than Korg and Yamaha flagship models...and about 5/8" shorter than G70..

The keybed is solid on the BK..much better resisitance than the PSR's and Juno G..The throw is shorter than most , but the solidness of the action makes it more playable than most other low price beds..It is similar to the GW8, but just plays better..I think the previous Prelude did have a slight edge over the BK bed, but maybe the slight larger size may be the difference..

I have not liked any of the Korg keybeds..except the PA2x and 3x...The PA800 is only slightly better than the PA50 and following stuff..Korg should be ashamed to put a poor keybed on such an overpriced instrument as the PA800.

If you need to adjust to a lessor key feel..I think I would rather adjust to the BK5 keys over the others..If I were a piano player..I would not want to compromise beyond a G70 bed or PA 1,2,3x key feel..

For what the BK5 gives you in a small light package, and maybe the best drums of all the models...adjusting to BK5 key feel...is doable..

Dennis,
I had the PA600 and found the key bed to be pretty good. In fact, it is better then the key bed on my S950 by leaps and bounds. I also had the BK-5 and was not impressed - sent it back. The PA600 key bed is not extremely light like so many of the middle range arrangers.

Excellent, thanks Fran smile and thanks Deane smile good info. I can get a PA600 or a BK5 for about the same money here, I do much prefer Roland styles, but love the Korg live operations...however bottom line is
1.I must like the piano/EP range (Korgs are well, okay) Roland has ALWAYS had the better pianos
2.I do not like to compromise a lot on a keybed so it is second in the list
3.On stage live operations - til now Korg, but I DO like the BK-5 App from Roland....VERY tasty!!
4.Styles - particularly small combo based.

Dennis

PS: The above assumes I can actually get used to 61 notes which is still doubtful - but maybe as they are small enough I can use a bigger controller even though a dislike using two keyboards.

Dennis why not wait ....maybe the BK-9 is still too come with a better keybed and 76 keys..just sayin'..sounds like 61 keys and a toyish plastic feel isn't gonna make you happy? confused1

Haven't tried pa600 but if it's the same as the new Krome 61/73 ,it will be a disaster. Yes krome keys are worse than MOTL PSRs interms of playability .
New entry level KORGS keybeds are pretty bad.so is Yammy Mox 61.
