Pretty interesting, but I can tell you that you can buy a custom made case from Hybrid Cases for less than the cost of the parts.

That's a good tutorial but price-wise it's similar math(s) here in the UK. I can get the bits from my local stockist - cpc - and their prices are pretty good for sales to the public but even then the costs of parts is similar to the cost of a custom case. Also, even though I think I'm quite handy with a saw and screwdriver, I'd be pushed to get the same quality of fit and finish.
