In last Saturday's Providence newspaper(and that's giving it quite a compliment), there was a front page story about a local Irish pub that has been fined $14,000 for 'violating copyright laws' ...
A representative of ASCAP was present one night when a band played Marley's "Is This Love", Petty's "The Waiting", Dead's "Friend of the Devil" and Bunnell's "Ventura Highway" ... In the suit, ASCAP was looking for $750 to $30,000 for EACH violation ...
The owner said he mistook ASCAP's pursuit of a license as a SCAM ... I take that with a POUND of salt, because according to the article there were repeated attempts by ASCAP to get him signed. That being the case, as a business owner, after a couple of attempts aren't you consulting your attorney?!?!?
The owner has since signed license agreement ...
