Will this new Rhodes piano be made by Roland?

I remember in 1987 the Rhodes trademark was acquired by Roland, but they only applied the name to digital pianos.

Just curious....perhaps the name was re-
acquired?

It will be nice to see a Rhodes with MIDI.

The Rhodes Mark V Stage 73 + MIDI was prototyped around 1984, with Chick Corea, John Novello and Steve Woodyard being the original owners of the three pianos built.

It was a customized Stage 73 with a MIDI output for controlling external synthesizers, as well as a set of inputs and outputs for mixing an additional audio signal with the Rhodes output.

The front panel included a 3-band EQ and controls for splitting and layering the keyboard's MIDI zones. The MIDI Mark V made its debut on the first Chick Corea Elektric Band album, connected to a Yamaha TX816 rackmount synth.

This new one, no doubt, will be destined to be another classic.

Ian

Ian: From Gearwire.com

In 1996, the "Rhodes" name was bought back from Roland for Harold by one of Harold Rhodes's colleagues Joseph A. Brandstetter. Brandstetter acquired all the rights to Rhodes from the family in 2003 and has announced plans to reintroduce the new real Rhodes piano products in 2007.

I'm going to Winter NAMM same as every year. So I will definately be checking out the new Rhodes. I just LOVE those pianos. There really is nothing that sounds quite like them. It would be a real shame if Harold Rhodes's legacy disappeared so I am pleased to see Rhodes re-emerge. I'll let you know how it compares to the original Rhodes piano. I'd always find space at home for an original Rhodes. I just don't like to lift them
