Hi there all,

I've not been able to find a second hand flight case for the Tyros, and I'm travelling soon to New York.

Has anybody had experience with flying a keyboard without a flightcase?

Is taking it on hand-luggage an option?

Is there a way to pack it in a safe way (even if it takes time and effort), without purchasing a flightcase?

Any ideas/experiences much appreciated. Thanks,

Zalmi

Hi Zalmi,

I'd be careful before I fly my Tyros around in "makeshift" boxes.

If you want to do it anyway, my suggestion would be to buy thick bubble wrap, wrap you keyboard with it and ship it in its original box.

Be aware that you're going to be paying overweight and oversize...

Hi Chony,

Why would I pay overweight and oversize? (You cake 40 kilo AFAIK to NY)

I would just buy a nice new flight case .....it will be a sad day when you get off the plane and your T2 is in pieces....
why take that chance?

Thanks Donny and Tony.

What do you think though about taking it on as hand luggage? Would they let? I'm just very squeezed money-wise, and trying to save £150 or so.

When I bought my Tyros from Wisconson, I had it wrapped in the plastic bubble wrap
then put into the gig bag from musicans friend stuffed with the whtie styrofoam pelletts top bottom and around all sides
then it was put into a heavy duty cardboard
box with more cardboard and styrofoam and it arrived here in Cozumel Mexico safe and sound in 1 peice...this was through Continental Airlines.....like anything else, you take your chances...if you ship it, please buy insurance for it....good luck

Nope, no way they'll allow anything even half that size go on as hand luggage. Sorry to break it to you but you will have to ship it as luggage and a cardboard box really won't cut it. It'll most likely end up with broken keys or worse if you try that.

Thanks Tony for the good advice, and Nigel for the warning. I do have insurance for the keyboard but if the risk is that high, I think I'll not do it.

I'm flying tomorrow :0 please G-d, so it looks like it'll have to stay in London.

If I'd seen something like the sale you just mentioned, Tony, that shipped to London, I would have definitely jumped for it.

I'll let you know if I did manage to get it over on Monday.

All the best,

Zalmi
