Is it recommended to cover your equipment and keyboards to protect them from dust? In my studio the dust is a big problem but I don't think its ever intefered with my equipment - every month or two I just give everything a dusting. I'm just wondering if it can do any damage.

Yes,

When dust accumulates beneath the rubber keypads, which granted it will take some time, the electical conductivity will decrease to some degree. The same holds true with some types of switches. The worst problem, though, is when dust accumulates on the leaflet contacts of 1/4-inch jacks and combines with cigarette smoke and humidity. Then it turns into a black, gooey mess than really causes problems. I had to deal with this with one of my fan-cooled amps. The air was drawn not only through the air intakes, but was also being pulled through the unused jack openings. At the end of three months of performing in a smoke-filled bar room, many of the channels would no longer function unless you wiggled the jack a bit after it was inserted. The amp head was still under warranty and sent back for repairs. The tech called and said the entire interior of the amp was covered with dust and goey cigarette tars. Covering you equipment just makes good sense--something like parking your car in a garrage.

I have Keywear covers[made in USA] for my keyboards, one for my 61 key Va-7, and another for my 76 key G-1000.. They are stretch covers that fit like a glove..

What about this dust cover made by Yamaha for the Tyros. Is it any good?

And btw, with all those dust covers, how do you deal with those sore thumb speakers?

Though I don't currently use a dust cover on my Tyros, I like Donny's 'Cover Your Ax' suggestion (vs the Yamaha brand one) because it includes elastic to secure it (right?). I suspect Yamaha's cover doesn't include elastic, does it? On the other hand, the Yamaha covers are customed sized to fit specific Yamaha keyboard models. Ok, if I go with a 'Cover Your Ax', exactly which size (small, medium, long slim, large, extra large, extra slim) BEST fits the Tyros dimensions (44.88" x 16.85" x 5.40")?
