Did any body use Ketron SD1000 module with a Yamaha PSR arranger keyboard? I heard that as PSR s series supports GM1 & GM2 so it can be used like plug & play with SD1000.

That is correct. Since the SD1000 does not have buttons on the panel to be used to switch sounds ... etc, you can use your voice bank buttons on the panel of your Yamaha PSR arranger to change sounds on the SD1000. Use your registrations to save your favorite sounds ... etc!

Thanks,

AJ, exactly how does that work since you can not specify (like on Korg) the Bank, pgm chg that is sent to MIDI when you select a sound on the Yamahas?
Thanks,
Lee

LAHawk, not really sure what you're asking. You would use the Merger when you need to send MIDI output from two devices into one input. Can you please describe in more detail why you think you would need the Merger?

As one who has rarely used midi to midi, I guess I was asking what exactly the Merger was used for. But you have answered my basic question. Thanks TedS

If you have a basic midi controller (as many arranger keyboards are), then you will only have access to the first bank (128GM) sounds. Korg usually goes a little deeper with their keyboards and thus offers more options to control more parameters, access voicebanks .. etc (not found on other manufacturer's arranger units), but these features are available for way less money on professional Midi controller keyboards, such as MAudio ... etc.

Thanks,

If you want to access them from your arranger keyboard, you can also use an ipad as the middle man... in else you send midi from your keyboard to the ipad, and use a program like camelot pro or AUM to send the program and bank change sto the SD1000 trough the midi out..

If you use a PC computer, you can also use the vArranger software, that is the best tool to go with a SD1000
