I was surprised by the outcome of mine, there was one unexpected one in my top 3....

There is 6 piano's in this video, they are played with the screen turned black, afterwards, they tell you which is which.. Which one did your ears favor?

The blind test,I chose 5, slightly over 6,followed by 4.
Visual and extended test,I chose 6 over 5, again very close.

I was also surprised, for me to select 5 equally to 6.
4 made a good rock piano, cutting thru a mix.

The first 3 are over rated.

Question is, are you listening to the sound system(PA)or the keyboard?

My former Tyros, S970 and now PA 4X all sounded a bit different depending on the sound system I used.

Not a pre-set I would use on any of the models, as I prefer a fuller sounding acoustic piano (Steinway or Bosendorfer) however out of the 6, I preferred 3 (Korg PA900) and 5 (Tyros 4).

Acoustic pianos are very personal things, both in sound and feel, so just using 1 pre-set is not ideal.

Bill

My Favourite when it comes to sampled pianos is by Synthogy though Kurzweil run it close on the hardware front.

I choose 1,5,2 .. surprised that i put the T4 ahead of the Kronos
The Nord, just sounded more alive and dynamic then the others..

To me the Roland Fantom sounded thin and unnatural, i put him deadlast, while normally i am a big fan of Roland Piano sounds.

with all,............... EQ'ing of the video & kb's, let alone in a mix is a big factor hard to get any true piano opinion unless listening live in person audition. They shouldn't of revealed the answers and I'd bet we'd have different answers for sure..

When I listen to piano comparisons on line, knowing they are mp3's, compressed file.
I listen for layers that are velocity switched.
Better piano samples switch smoothly and do not jump out screaming of a velocity switch.
Secondly, I listen for tonal quality, to the extent , not too synth.
Playability, and how the samples respond to the touch, are most important...and the only way to judge a piano sound..
Any sample can be eq'd for fullness, clarity, big bottom etc.
