Are those buttons related to the traditional keyboard layout at all? I never played accordion.

Hi Dave

Yes,the buttons on the RH is a small version of a continental chromatic keyboard, commonly used in France for musette waltzes etc, also a great system for classical players. One note per button ( no push and pull as in diatonic keyboard/ harmonica.
