Hello all. I have been away for some time and would like to get back in the groove and could use some advise.

I have been using a Yamaha PSR-740 for a while now (yes, still!) and am very comfortable using it. Couple years back I bought a PSR-3000 used for about $1k and haven't used it, as it was much different from the 740 and just didn't have the time to learn it. Now, I would like to make the move forward away from my 740, and am debating if I should keep the 3000 and just learn it or sell it for a little loss and upgrade to a S910 or something else?

For those that have used a 3000 & a S900/910, how similar are they from a learning to use standpoint? Also, is there any noticeable sound improvement?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Regard,
Nick

Basically the PSR S910 and PSR 3000 work exactly the same. about 95% of the features are the same.

I used to own a PSR 3000 and now have the S910. The S910 has all the latest sounds and styles. the sound quality is a substantial difference.

the PSR 3000 is/was a great board. but the S910 is just basically the newer version with updated sounds and features.

It has every sound from the Tyros 2 and a god portion of sounds from the Tyros 3 including all new synth sounds and pads.

mp3 player/recorder, better keybed, proper Guitar strumming in the mega voices and multipads, new drum kits etc.

And like I said, if you know how to use the PSR 3000, you can instantly jump on the S910 and you will be able to navigate around just as easily without having to learn much...

I'm still using the PSR-3000 and it is light years beyond the PSR-740. If you have technical problems, go to www.psrtutorial.com and you'll find the answers to your questions answered in short order.

Good Luck,

Gary

Hmmmmmmmm! I wonder if I can post unanimously, in the spirit of Christmas, as Saint Nick?

I don't think the S910 has any sounds from the T3 that aren't on the T2. The S910 is way better than the PSR-3000.

I'm shocked that you never moved up to the PSR-3000 which is also way better than the PSR-740 - which only takes floppy disks!!!

I love my PSR-S910. Not only would I suffer if I had to move back to the PSR-3000, my audience would suffer as well, and in turn, my income.

The 3k is still a super arranger...if I remember Gary D who is a Super pro player....bought a S910 and after a few days promptly returned it for a few reasons and is still performing nightly with his Psr3000....
I don't think his audience or pocket is suffering at all. maybe Gary can explain it better.

If you play primarily instrumental music, the S910 really has the edge over the 3000 because of it's great SA voices, like guitar, sax, organ, strings etc.

If you are mostly a vocalist, then the 3000 should do you just fine...it's a terrific arranger, and light years ahead of the 740.

I had a 740, 3000, S900, S910, and the latter is by far, the best of the bunch.

Good luck,

Ian

Ian, how much could you reasonably expect to pay for a used 3000? And when did that model first appear?

I sold one a year ago for about 900 CAN...it was well used, but I had put in all new key contacts...it's a nice arranger, and it gets you away from those old floppy disks.

I'd say a mint 3000 should go for at least $1000 or more.
