Today (only?), Best Buy has this in-house brand of device on sale, $99 instead of $169. It can run Linux. It's mostly for "absorbing content" from various sources but I am wondering if this could be used as a lyric display device. The price is right! My bro, who is a programmer, says that putting the lyrics on there should be no problem. My only concern is some kind of foot controlled page turning device. I know they make those for Windows but I don't know about Linux.

Forgot the link: http://tinyurl.com/239n79e

P.S. Anyone have a link to that footswitch device that allows you to advance the page when displaying lyrics? Seems it was about $59. (Found it... Bilila Page/Score turner.)

I would pay double and get a Windows tablet or wait for an Android.

You're going to spend a lot of time trying to program this thing. Does it support Adobe? Will the page turning thing require a lot of programming.

Another disadvantage: the large frame on this thing.

I wouldn't recommend this device for lyric display. The Insignia™ - Infocast 8" Internet Media Display only supports the following file types: MP3, WAV, DRM-free WMA and ACC, JPEG, AVI, QuickTime, MPEG, MPEG-4, MPEG-4 H.264 and Flash Video (via apps), but doesn't support 'text' format' files that lyrics are normally stored in, ei: pdf, txt, doc, etc.

I continues to love my iPad, not only for easy to view bright sharp lyric display but tons of other things too. Btw, the Apple Store offered a discount on their iPads yesterday ( Black Friday Sale ), so a couple of my friends were able to p/u the 16GB wifi iPad for $458.00.

I have been tempted by new gadgets for lyric display but by MPP has served me flawlessly over the years and can't find any justification to switch. I like the ipad but wouldn't use most of the apps.
