Has anyone tried flying with any of these keyboards? I'm thinking of buying an s910. I know that the weight is good (under 50lbs), but the size with a case would be about 70 inches (8 inches more than is allowed).

Has anyone had problems with oversize? If yes, on which airlines.

UPS Ground in advance. Especially if this will be your "out of town" keyboard, it's okay to let it go those few days in transit.

Less schlepping to the airport and less anxiety during checkin on both sides.

Chony is that 70 inches a restriction for carry on luggage?

Is that the total of w,l,h measurements?

70 inches includes a case and obviously I would be putting it with luggage under the plane. I have flown AT LEAST one hundred times with my Tyros 1/2/3 and have never had any damage done.

The problem is that American Airlines (for example) charges $450 for the T3, JUST for luggage, overweight and oversize fees. The s910 is not overweight, but is 8 inches oversize.

Wow! $450 for an out of state gig x100 =$45,000 just fees. I'd buy 3 PSR-910 and rotate them via UPS. No question!

Where did you get 100 from?

There are a few airlines which charge $50 per side (Jetblue for example), so I try to stick with them. I just figured I'd give myself more flexibility with a smaller keyboard.

I once tried shipping a keyboard I sold on ebay and it was close to $100, so unless I was ripped off I don't have any plans to continue do that for gigs.

Anyway, shipping should cost about $40-50 a way. Don't go to a shipping store, they do mark it up a lot. Print your own Fed-Ex Ground labels online ((sign up for a free fedex account) and havd the box to a driver (they're all over K... Avenue anyway.

Yes, if you find an airline that'll work with you consistantly at a reasonabe fee (~$50) that's golden!
