Hi, does anyone else have a problem playing a Bb/C chord on Yamaha arrangers? My keyboard always want's to play Bbadd9/C which I don't want, it totally changes the sound of the arrangement. The only way I can get it to work is to move the 'chord recognition' split point a mile up the keyboard. And with only 61 notes, that doesn't leave much room for melody notes.

Actually, moving the split point doesn't work either on the Yamaha. So I can't play a Bb/C chord unless I go into 'FULL KEYBOARD' mode, and in that case I need to play it with the right hand sounds which I didn't want to do (especially with the bass note needing to be so low.)

Some Yamaha arrangers (low end) do not have a "fingered on bass" feature - a real mistake IMO.

my technics kn6000 has that feature - the chord SHOWS as Bbadd9/C and PLAYS a 'C' bass note if the bottom note of the chord I play is 'C' .... is that what you are looking for?

Hi,

in Pa2X using the "expert" mode you can see the following relationship between positions and recognized chords:

- C + Bb -> C7 chord
- Bb + C -> C/Bb
- C+D+F+Bb (or C+F+Bb+D) -> Bb/C

plus a number of rootless (jazz) chords.

Hope this help.

Best regards.

Actually, It's a brand new S910 that I just took out of the box. I'm in 'FINGERED ON BASS' mode and I want to play a simple Bb/C chord.

Really, any chord with the 9th in bass turns the top chord into an 'add9' chord, but I don't want the arrangement playing add9, it gives a whole different flavor. Just want a simpler Bb arrangement with the bass note on C.

Play C on bottom, followed by D, F and Bb. It should give you the standard triad over C bass.

Appreciate the suggestion, but I still get Bbadd9/C when playing C-D-F-Bb.

When you play that configuration of notes are you saying that the bass note that is played is Bb ? ...

Nope, I do get the C in the bass, however, the arrangement for the Bbadd9 is different then for a plain Bb chord. So I end up getting notes mixed in there that I don't want. It's the same as if I want a Bb/G chord, the arranger interprets this as Gm7 and changes the notes of the arrangement to include the 7th degree, but I only want an arrangement of Bb notes with the bass playing G.
