My neighbor has a Model T truck...takes it out every Sunday during the summer for a drive around town...you shift gears with a foot pedal.

Old cars are cool...I used to have a restored '49 Cadillac Coupe De Ville up until a few years ago....Hydramatic Drive....leather inside....14 mpg.

My first car was a 1947 Dodge DeLuxe Coupe,...Remember the "three on the tree"?

Yes I know the car you mean, Ron...I learned to drive on a 1949 Dodge Wayfarer...and yes, it had "three on the tree".(and a steering wheel fit for a steamship!)

I learned to drive in my Dad's Model T Ford and got me a Model A 1/4 ton pickup from a neighbor for 100.00
I had a 49 Cadilac baby blue in 1951. I wore the engine out and found out that the Army tanks had the same kettering engine so I bought one from a surplus dealer and it included the auto transmission. My buddies and I got it installed and the test run showed us that top speed with this transmission was only 25 miles an hour. So we had to do the job all over again and put in the original transmission.
this was a great car.

The strange thing about the early Hydramatics was that they had no "Park" position...just N Dr Lo R.

You put it in R (Reverse) and shut the engine off, and it locked the back wheels from turning.

You had to put in back in N to start it again.

Great old car....smooth as a baby's dupa!

Thanks, Hammer, before my time but I enjoyed that. I remember my dad talking about them.

The car I learned on was a regular manual...you must have driven one with Fluid Drive.

It's a little later.....................

I learned to drive in the 70s with a 64 Rambler Classic. 3 speed on the column, rode like a fine coach. I loved that car................... -charley
