Can anyone assist with this conundrum? I have a S900 and a Roland AX-7 Keytar which I want to program so that I can access the the S900's SA guitar and sax sounds remotely...The Keytar just jumps to the GM tones which is very frustrating, The Keytar will not program change to the SA voices only if I change them via the keyboard then the Keytar will play them, whatever I do only the GM voices are selectable from the Keytar...

Any ideas guys..?

Hi Pasadoble

You need to program the Keytar to send out a Bank change (MSB) as well as a program change. (The program bank and number sent must equal the bank and program number for the SA voice you require in the Yamaha)

Hope this helps

Regards

Bill

Noel,

This should help:

1. Press Function

2. Choose MIDI

3. Press Edit

4. Tab right to Receive

5. Use the [B] button (if necessary)to tab down to to your receive channel

6. Change the 'Part' to "Keyboard"

Now the keytar is just an extension of the S900. Whatever you do on the Roland, it will be as if you were doing on on the s900's own keyboard.

You may want to save this as a User MIDI template, if you will be switching between to MIDI behavior and others.

Merry Chrismas!

Curious Pasa -

Are you doing mp3 with the Yammy and tapping into the sounds while playing the AX?

Are you playing the arranger and the AX at the same time?

What exactly are you doing with both?

Thanks.

Does the keytar have the ability to send MIDI Bank and program changes?

If so, as it has been mentioned...just set it up to select the voices you want.

If not, you may have to go through a PC or other MIDI controller,

Are the effects settings saved with the voice (Tone) or are those part of the Registration? If the PC#/Bank Changes only call up the Tone, Steve's system might work better for you. Then, by changing octaves on the AX-7 you can move into different areas of the S900's keyboard (and hence different sounds and layers)..

How many splits does the S900 do? One or two?

If changing a registration doesn't interrupt the playback of an SMF (presumably you are not playing the AX-7 and playing chords on the S900 at the same time!), you might be able to program the AX-7 to change registrations, which would be a one PC# command that could completely setup the S900's keyboard sounds. Effects, dynamics, layers, the whole shmeer...

Is that doable, Steve?

How's it going with the MIDI? I just picked up on an AX and will incorporate it into my act.

Hi to all who've helped or taken an interest. I managed to configure the AX7 to select all S900 sounds via MSB / PC, it now works a treat and I can select all the great S900 guitar / sax sounds remotely, I'm using the AX7 for playing with a live band and boy you gotta get one of these baby's there are the business if you want to get out at the front of stage with the guitarists and strut your stuff.

Wish I could use it on my arranger gigs but it's just to impractical.

Good to hear you've figured it out. I'll be getting into mine during a day off. I do plan to use it with my solo act.
