Taike, I met Jamey in the mid 60's. He's from New Albany, Indiana, about 80 miles from here.

He's been a fabulous jazz educator. Many single horn players in this area use his "minus one" trining recordings for live performance, even though some of the older ones still have a human "counting off" in the recording.

Jamey Ambersold's 'minus one' CD's were standard issue to us jazz students back in the late 80's. They certainly were a godsend to me. I fondly remember working thru: Volumes 1-5 and still recall the cool 'signature artwork' on the book covers carried around campus by fellow music students:

Interestingly enough, soon after that period, 'Band in a Box' software was introduced, which became strong competition to Ambersold's minus one CD's because it offers 'user customibility'.

As I recall, Jamey had one of the best tenor tones I ever heard. I first heard him at an outdoor art festival in Louisville-right across the river from New Albany-the St. James Court art festival. Really good improvisor, and many with an academic approach aren't nearly so innovative.
