friends, i've been looking for a Public Address system to use for my performances, and still did not get to any conclusion.

i am not looking for a very powerfull or sophisticated one. actually, i think i need a rather low power amplified mixer, but reliable one, and two good speakers.

so, i reduced down the options for a powermixer to:
1. behringer pmh2000
2. behringer pmh1000
3. phonic powerpod 740
4. phonic powerpod 620

as for speakers, a 200-250W would be enough....
what is your experience with any of these equipments?

www.barbetta.com :High quality, lightweight, lots of power.
www.bose.com :Bose L1, incredible quality, lots of power, relatively lightweight.
www.logitech.com : Z-5500 5.1 system. Inexpensive, very light, fantastic sound.

Good Luck,

Gary

Hi adimatis:

I would be concern about the brands you posted, I have friends that DID owned those brands, they are VERY affordable, but their reliability/quality is another issue, I would listen to the brands/PAs advised by Gary besides the Yamaha EMX 212,312 or 512 either with the Club series speakers S112V/SM12V, etc. or the EV ZX1 90s, a very light weight and small footprint and an awesome sound, depending on your needs the EMXs vary in power and the 312 & 512 have compressors vs. the smaller 212, this type of PA may cost a little more, but is better quality and very reliable.

I agree with concern of the products you mention [Quality].

For my money I would look at Yorkville, Traynor, and Mackie..

Also, I am sold on powered speakers and non powered mixer..

I use the FBT Maxx4A powered speakers (very light and 400W) with the Alesis Multimix 6 or 8 channel.
Sound clear, good and loud if needed.

Hi:
As owner of 3 PA systems, I have powered system with pasive mixer that gives you nice quality, but for a 4-10 gigs per week, is more cables to set up and undo....so, that is why I own also the Yamaha EMX 312s with 2 pasive light weight EV ZX1s plus my active subwoofer KCW1 a Hybrid combination, but it works great!!, very vesatil set up and light wight, I also like the Barbbetas..

you should keep in mind i live in romania, europe... so, everything is more expensive, and in romania even more because everything is brought from other european countries...
for instance, on www.musicstore.de there is a pack including yamaha emx 312s and 2 200w speakers. that one is 333 euro (is a "deal" as they call it) but that one costs me with 40% more by the time that arrives to me.....

the behringer had some good reviews even on american internet stores (www.zzounds.com, etc) and i rely on that... a little bit... about phonic i couldn t find many reviews.

and another thing: would i be better with powered speakers rather that amplified mixer? than what, i need a DC plug near every speaker, then one next to my mixer and keyboard... or alot more cables...

thanks for suggestions, keep them coming...

Fran,

I am also looking for a PA to be used for a solo/sometimes duo in small to medium venues (not high volume). What are the advantages of a powered speakers/passive mixer setup? I was looking at the Yamaha EMX 212s or 312s as well.

Thanks
