I have sound forge 6.0 for windows 98 I now use xp professional and I can't load soundforge 6. So my question is does anybody know of a free or cheap program that does what SF does and accepts DX plugins?

Mike,

You might want to take a look at Goldwave, which is a great editing progrom and has many of the same features. You'll find it at www.goldwave.com which is also where you'll find a trial version.

Good Luck,

Gary

Hi,

When you say the program can't load, do you mean that it will not install, or do you mean that the program is installed but will not launch?

Assuming that the problem is the latter, try this:

From the desktop,
  • double-click My Computer
  • double-click Local Drive C:/
  • open the Program Files folder
  • open the Sonic Foundry folder
  • open the Sound Forge 6.0 folder
  • find the Forge60.exe file and RIGHT-CLICK on the file icon
  • choose Properties from the dropdown menu
  • click the Compatibility tab
  • place a check mark in the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
  • choose Windows 98 from the dropdown list
  • click Apply and then OK
  • close the Explorer window and try launching the program.

Hope it works for you.

Best Regards,

Dave

Thanks guys the program is not compatable with xp as far as I know I have to buy a new version. The program will not install and they want crazy money for the new version, I still have the old computer on the network here at home but when I want to edit something I have to start the old computer send my file there, edit and then send it back to the new computer.
I have been doing that for a while and I knew you guys would have suggestions, thanks again.

WDMcM, I'll try your suggestion but I think the problem is I can't get the key to work, I think I have loaded the program got the demo but couldn't unlock it? could that be ? I gave up on it a year ago but today I needed it so thought I would ask.
Thanks

Gunnar Jonny I downloaded it today, thanks I gave it a quick try it looks like it will work without the DX plug ins. I think it is the solution I don't use it that much and don't need anything fancy.
Thanks

Sound Forge 6.0 is Windows XP compatible. One possible reason you may not be able install it - is it warez? If it's a hacked copy, Windows XP's added security features can prevent it from loading.

PS: In my opinion the price for Sound Forge 7.0 is well worth it. It can be purchased at Guitar Center for $249. That includes Sound Forge 7.0 plus CD Architect 5.0 and Noise Reduction 2.0.

You may want to wait for Sound Forge 8.0 though. Version 8 will be able to use VSTi plugins, plus it has some other enhancements over version 7.0.

But in regards to Sound Forge 6.0, it IS Windows XP compatible. At least the bonafide product is anyway.

Another reason may be the Group Policy Object Editor in XP PRO may be set to disallow certain programs from installing. You can change the policy to allow ALL software to be installed if you so choose. Search your XP PRO help files if you have questions regarding GPO's or how to change settings if you need to.

Best regards,
Mike
