I just found this:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/700640/

It got a poor rating. Does anyone have
any experience with this thing?

While the price sounds good, keep in mind that you still have to purchase a pair of midi cables as well. By the time you add the freight charge, midi cables and purchase price, you could have walked into the local music store and purchased an Edirol UM-1 for about $40, which is very highly rated.

Even the Edirol UM-1 requires midi cables. There are USB cables that go directly to the midi IN/OUT, but Edirol and M-Audio each require separate cables - and I like that. The Evolution (made by M-Audio) seems a little cumbersome - most interfaces should be plug and play. But my guess is this is a good interface.

Cassp,

The UM-1X comes with built-in cables attached to the interface device.

Cheers,

Gary

Thanks for all the responses.
I have plenty of MIDI cables so I don't mind
having to plug them in. It's also better
in the long run to have separate cables,
because what do you do if the one piece
interface's midi cables start having problems?
I guess my only reservation with this Evolution unit is the drivers.
Roland is the defacto standard for MIDI
interfaces, so maybe spending a few extra
dollars will be worth it.
