I'm looking to buy a digital piano. Simply put: is this digital piano any good? Does anybody have experience with it? Pros/Cons, etc?

Are there any other digital pianos out there that are any better and aren't priced too much higher than $800? Basically, I just need to keep it under $1000.

Thanks for any and all help, as you can probably tell, I'm somewhat new.

I sell this Casio PX400 along with all the other Yamaha, Roland, Generalmusic, Korg and other digital pianos.
I really like the Casio as long as 32 voice polyphony is enough for you.
The 400 has hundreds of sounds, styles, mic input with lyrics shown on the screen when used with standard midi files, Smart Media storage, built in speakers, and the action feels really good. For $800 you even get a really nice wooden keyboard stand.
There really isn't anything else in this price range with as many features.
If you are really looking for just a great sounding digital piano with 64 voice polyphony and great sounds and you can use an external speaker system, I might suggest you look at the Roland RD170. The action is the best in it's class and so are it's sounds. The price was $1295.00 but because of competition, in my store i've lowered the price to $895.00.
Yamaha has there P60, P90 and P120 pianos ranging in price from $700 to about $1195.00. These products are still made in Japan, which is unusual these days (most are made in China or Italy), and their build quality is quite good.
I hope some of this information helps.

Thanks for the information, it was helpful.

If price was not a factor at all, would you recommend the Casio PX400 or the Roland RD170?

As for external speaker systems...

Would the RD170 absolutely require one? I play guitar and have a guitar amp. I've heard several times that playing bass through a guitar amp is not very healthy for the amp itself, do you know if this holds true for digital pianos as well?

Could you recommend any decent external speaker systems?

Thanks a lot, your help is much appreciated.

Yes, the Roland RD170 is a better bet for you if spending just a little more money won't hurt. Also, you shouldn't use your guitar amp if you want accurate reproduction of keyboard sounds.
Behringer has come out with a powered speaker stereo system which has 15 watts per side and sells for around $60.00 for the whole system. It takes two stereo sources plus a mic input with it's own volume control.
If you want something better, Roland has the DM-20's which are a little more powerful, about the same size and sell for $199.00. I would also recommend the Behringer Truth B2030 powered stereo monitors. These have 110 watts per speaker and sell for $279.00 per pair. All these would work fine for home. There are other options for performing such as keybaord amps from Roland starting at about $229.00 and up.

Thanks, I believe I'll be going with the Roland. I'll just be looking into a set of headphones and a speaker system.

You've been a big help, I appreciate it.
