My sound card sucks!!
Please recommend a couple of your favorites that I can look for on ebay.

My card is making a bunch of noise. I don't want a $300 card. It would be worth more than my computer. Ha! Ha!

thanks again
Boo

You didn't say if you need it for recording or just to have sound on your computer Boo.

If you want a good one for recording I would recommend the M-Audio Delta 44 PCI Card/w Breakout Box. It can be had for $229 possibly cheaper depending on where you buy.

If you just want a sound card so you can listen to .mp3's, etc. then the Creative Sound Blaster Live! can be had for under $50.

Best regards,
Mike

Boo,

Get the Sound Blaster--that's all you really need.

I have used Echo Gina 20 for the last 5 years, I recently upgraded to a Gina 24. It is an awesome card. 8 analog outs, 2 analog Ins, 8 ADAT digital I/O, SPDIF. If you need a professional card for recordings, I highly recommend Echo products.

Soundblaster Live is adequate if you want to do basic recording, plus it hosts soundfonts. If you are more serious about computer recording, I would suggest a step up to a true 24 - 96 card, like the Midiman Audiophile, something else in it's class, or something better, easpecially if you need more than 2 inputs .

The Audiophile can be had for around $150.00 and it employs ASIO type drivers, which allow for much less latency, which basically amounts to the real time delay between data from the input device.. midi keyboard, soft synth to the audio function out of the card).

Also, the noise floor is lower. When recording with my Soundblaster live, I always felt the need to employ noise reduction techniques to my recordings, which can significantly degrade the overall sound. I don;t need to do this with my Audiophile.

I still have and use both, but the SB Live's main function now is to act as a second midi interface and as a host device for my soundfonts. I never record with it any more.

No-ones mentioned the Audigy yet... so I will. I think mine sounds great; there's audibly less noise than the budget soundcards. I would nevertheless look elsewhere for real-world 24/96 support.

Boo,

AJ is right saying the Audiophile performs much better than all Creative (soundblaster) cards. I own the AP2496 and it has all connections/features that I need : No fancy nice-to-haves but quality !
