Hi all, I am composing songs on computer for 4 years and playing keyboards for 5 years but I am new at composing songs using MIDI. I hope you can help on this subject.
I am using Yamaha PSR2000 and it is connected to my PC via HOST cable. I have a question;
http://www.yamahapkclub.com/english/top_e.htm

There are some midi files at the link I wrote above, for example I downloaded the song named SPACECAT which is at DANCE section, saved it to floppy disk and played the song on PSR2000. It was great! The song, sound, and instruments are awesome.

If I want to compose song like that, will I use my keyaboard (play all the tracks on the keyboard) or will I use a midi program like Cakewalk on PC? What is the procedure to compose a song like this?
Can you explain it to me please? I really don't have any idea on MIDI?

Thank you all...

Mino,
For a good midi education, that would be very difficult at best to answer in a post....go here: http://midiworld.com/index.htm

I agree with Terry. Good site to help you get started. If you have specific questions though I'll be happy to help.

Unfortunately the link above seems to be down at least for the moment. Here are a couple of other sites that might help you in getting started as well: http://www.verysimple.com/midi/index.html http://www.tweakheadz.com/how_to_get_started_with_midi.html http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/

I hope these will be of some help to you. If your question is more about the mechanics of songwriting itself with your boards, all I can tell you is there are several different methods that I employ ( and probably a whole lot of other methods out there that others may use and I don't ) depending on the kind of piece I want to write and my mood. My arranger kb is sometimes included in the process and at other times it isn't .

If you don't find what you are looking for in the links above, I will gladly try to help answering specific questions, and I'm sure that there are others here who know things that I don't. Feel free to post them or email me (it's on my profile )

AJ
