Thanks Larry. I remember Frankie Lane doing High Noon in the sound track for the movie with the same name. I bought his recording on a 78 rpm record somewhere around 1950 or so. It was a big hit for him.

and I once read that Tex Ritter (who sang the original) did not like the song at first acquaintance and had to have his arm twisted to accept the soundtrack recording job. The Dmitri Tiomkin song ended up a smash hit, won an Oscar for best song, had multiple versions made, boosted his career enormously, and he was always asked to sing it for years afterwards at gigs

Isn't Google wonderful? Thanks Alec. I don't recall Tex Ritter doing that sound track at all, but there's a lot of stuff I don't remember as well as I should. The stuff I found on the Internet only gives Frankie Lane credit for his top ten recording. My memory has him doing that song in the movie. Another senior moment?

Well. . . Now I don't know what to think. Look what it says about High Noon on this web site. http://www.epinions.com/mvie-review-1C97-1125AE67-3993567A-prod1

Hi Bob, The reference for movies is IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044706/ (under Other Crew), and... I've got the dvd
Frankie Lane certainly had a big hit with a cover version, but did not do the soundtrack. Let's face it though, it sometimes seems as if every Western of the 1950s had a theme sung by Frankie Lane
