I just received another cleverly disguised virus which is supposedly a critical security update from Microsoft.
The 'From' entry is 'MS Corporation Public Assistance' and the subject is 'Latest Net Critical Pack'. Again, it's a very convincing and plausible email but the 'Giveaway' is that it includes an .exe file attachment, which Microsoft NEVER send out.
The fact that Microsoft have just released some critical updates for their most recent operating systems, makes this email seem even more genuine
Don't be fooled by this one..........

Microsoft, and probably most other, never send out updates
and patches by e-mail.
To update the software, you have to click a link in the
programme, or go to the related website.
This is repeated on this forum several times, and also in TV
and other media.
Some time ago a good friend of mine told me about a programme
called MailWasher.
This make it possible to see and delete all unwanted e-mails
from the server before download to your e-mailprogram.
Then it never reach your PC, and a better virus protection is
hard to find, unless turn off your PC, since most all viruses
coming via e-mail.

You'll find more info at MailWasher at www.firetrust.com

Absolutely right Gunnar, I've been using MailWasher for a long time and it is an excellent spam and virus filter. However, there are still people who don't even have a virus checker on their PC - Unbelievable!!

I too, have been using mail washer for a long while and it is an excellent program. I wouldn't be without it.
I DID send the info out to all of you that are on all of my email lists, so hope you all installed it and got rid of all your spam and virus problems.

What Gunnar says is true. I always get an update icon on my taskbar when Microsoft has one ready for me to download. It NEVER comes in the form of an email. Another thing to look into is setting your email filers to only let mail through if it comes from someone in your address book. It cuts out all the spam and junk mail. I had never heard of Mailwasher, but you can bet I will take a look at it.

Yes that's true Bud, but it also make it impossible
for other friendly people to reach you, or?
