I purchased a pre-owned SD1. I have noticed that when I select a Style, some of them are louder, in relation to the right-hand voice, than others. When the SD1 comes from the factory, are the styles balanced better, or are some of the balances different? I'm thinking perhaps the previous owner "adjusted" some of them.
Most of the styles come up with the right hand volume much louder than the styles.
Thanks,
DonM

Hello Don:
In my 2 SD1s, both where balanced in relation of melody and styles, I am 99.99% that the previous owner had something to do with that, if you restore factory or simply when you install the OS of your preference, that will make it just like you open it from the box.
The beauty of the SD1 is that you can customise to your very individual taste/needs, EVERYTHING, even factory styles (revoicing them), voices/sounds, user programs, etc.
If you need additional consultation, or if you have more specific questions, just e-mailme, I will be happy to help you.

Thanks, my friend. I suspected the same. I will install the latest OS, but will probably wait until the weekend.

Just wondering, if the OS are up to date, is it still nessesary to
reinstall the OS, is'nt it enough to replace the .pat files with the
originals to get it load default settings for the style?
Maybe I'm wrong, because when load a style I thought all settings is
usually following the .pat file?
GJ

Btw, I think Ketron are very well allround balanced compared to many
other brands who often sounds like a totally different keyboard ( or
"band" if you like ) after loading a new style.

You are probably right, but since there is a later OS than the one I'm using, I will probably just install that rather than restore the original pat settings.

Don,

I feel the opposite way concerning the Tyros. The default style level is 100 and most of the OTS solo voices are set at 90 to 100. I find that I set the style volume at about 90 and still I bump up the level of the guitars, saxes and such.

Tom,
I did the same with the Tyros. I set most of the right-hand voice and mic to max and the styles at 100.

Tom & Don....
The 3000's balances are similar to the Tyros based on what you have said. To my ears almost all the onboard styles sound better reduced to 90...and most lead voices up to around 110. And this is AFTER tweaking the global EQ's, which makes a world of difference in the overall sound.

Factory settings for drums and bass almost always have to be pumped up IMO to make the styles come alive.

Hey Don.....

The one thing that I did not like with the 4.0a OS,was the balancing of the styles. 4.0a was very different than OS 3.0, particularily the X1 styles carried over into the SD. I still use 3.0 styles and sounds with OS 4.0c.

Maybe you should go back to 3.0 ? Dan

One other thing........

There is a Global Balance .
Use the balance/value buttons before a style is played.....
