Hi

I have just purchased a PSR640 which I am very pleased with but have a question: How can I locate midi files which have the lyrics on them - ie. I have found hundreds of midi files on the net but the only way I can tell if they have lyrics is to play them on my PSR640. Is there a special site anywhere for midi's with lyrics. Also, does anyone know if I can put lyrics in a midi file using cubase? Please help.
Thanks

Well go to www.midfarm.com .
The midi-files with lyrics are called KARAOKE. Search for Karaoke files *.KAR and you will find the same midi-files WITH lyrics ! Hope this helps.
As to the second question: I would also want to know how you put in lyrics !! But I think it is rather complicated since there is a line walking along the text showing you what to sing. Anybody can help?

Thanks Ilija but I have been there and downloaded the .KAR files and unless I play them on my karoke machine on the PC, they do not come up with the lyrics on the PSR640. Do I need to press something to activate them or are they not compatible?
Help!!

.kar files are not compatible with the PSR-640 lyric display. There is a utility call kar2mid.exe that makes the necessary changes, but I have not been satisfied with the results. If you are willing to pay for files with lyrics, check out Tune 1000. Yes, in theory anyway, you can add lyrics in your computer-based sequencer. I have done it in Cakewalk. But again, it is not as straightforward as it should be.

GNmidi works very well for this and many other midi editing functions. You can try it free and to buy it is very inexpensive.
I've misplaced the address, but search for GNmidi or Gunter Nagler, the guy who wrote the program. If you can't find it let me know and I'll dig a little deeper for the address.

Hi Alan

GNMidi and kar2mid.exe are both by Gunther Nagel. GNMidi is a windows shareware program, while kar2mid.exe is dos freeware. Actually, I think GNMidi justs asks for a key chain or something like that.

Don and Fran's directions should work.

Hi.
Myself I used Cakewalk & Powertrack Pro to made my own Midilyrics files it work perfectly for My Roland G1000 Yamaha PSR9K and PSR740 too.
Any way if you download Kar files it wont work with your Keyboard so you need to convert it to midifile (Type 0){I used Powertrack to convert Karfile to midi0file}
Any question email direct to me at:

Best regard

Hi guys,

Perhaps I do miss the point of this discussion, but in my opinion ordinary midi-files can contain lyrics as well !!
The are many, many midifiles that have a special 'lyrics' track and many arranger keyboards do have a 'lyrics ON' option.

As far as I remember the KN3000, KN5000, WKx's already had this feature and OF COURSE the modern X1 .... ;-))

So ..... there is no need to search for .KAR files at all : Just find the right midi-files and use the keyboard's display to sing along.

kind regards,

Roel

Hi all,
I think it depends on what board you have whether or not the midi files need to be converted.

I had a KN5000 which would only display lyrics if the file (be it .mid or .kar) was converted to SMF 0

The Korg i40m module will play any file without conversion, recognising .mid or .kar files individually

Have just got the Roland EM2000 and that seems to recognise .kar files without the need for conversion.

Also (Ilija) I did come across a prog once that enabled you to put lyrics into midi files. It was shareware and from what I can remember worked quite effectively and was very easy to use. I will have a trawl round the net and see if I can find it if you are interested.

Hi
the cakewalk are a good programm to write word on midifile
if your keyboard don't read .kar change it in .mid and after change the format on 0
if you haven't word you can download vanbasco midiplayer and click with right mouse and copy the words to the melody track in cakewalk
if you don't found a melody track you can or play on a new track a rythmique melodie any note
after you copy the text into
you must know that in the .kar people write the words on a marker
i convert a lot of this midifile if you need it mail me saada2@yahoo.fr
