This unit has had many favorable reviews. Sound quality seems to be quite good and most people seem to be satisfied with the Vocalist VR's Harmony function. Note: The Vocalist VR does NOT have Phantom Power built-in. Also it does NOT have a Noise Gate built-in. If you sing in a Band the Vocalist VR has a nack for picking up the Band's Voices and Instruments in the Mix. So you will probably need to buy an external Compressor/Noise Gate to eliminate that possibility. "If you sing in a Band that is." If you do not sing in a band, you should be okay. You will have to be careful were you place your Speakers though because the Vocalist VR has a tendency to pick up your external sound source in the Mix.

I've used both the workstation and VR. The VR has the workstation beat by a country mile, realistic sounding harmony, and built-in reverb. All components are adjustable and programable. If you're a live performer, the VR is the way to go. If you're into lots of studio stuff, the TC may have the edge, but it's too expensive for what it does.

Cheers,

Gary

Thanks guys I'm so grateful for your time and comments, I was really confused because at first I thought that the Workstation was much better than the VR but I think after all I'll go for the Prism it looks like it the top of the range of them all.

once agian thanks, now I have to see where I am gong to buy it from, cause I live in Europe.

As an owner of the Vocalist Workstation EX, I too had thought the Vocalist Workstation EX the more advanced (better) unit vs the Vocalist VR, as Digitech themselves had advised me this when I purchased my Vocalist Workstation EX a while back. Has the Vocalist VR (more recent version?) moved ahead of the Workstation EX now? I realize that the TC Helicon Voice Prism includes more advanced vocal harmony technology, but still think the Vocalist Workstation EX sounds real good considering it's considerably lower price point. - Scott

I have not heard the VR so I will not attempt to make a comparison, but I am using a Workstation EX and have had nothing but compliments on the harmonies ... nothing 'robotic' sounding at all ... However, I only use the harmonies to fill-in and accent certain parts of the song, not to replace my own voice (although some may think I should ) ....
As with any other gear, try as many different ones as you can to see how they fill YOUR needs, in both sound and operation .....

Scott,

Personally, I never thought the EX sounded robotic, and for the most part sounded a lot like Digitech's midi-volcalist. The VR, however, at least to me, seems to provide a richer, fuller sound, and adds a bit more depth to the harmonies. I have not heard the TC in person, but I have heard several recordings done by trjazz and others using the device. The harmonies ranged from good to excellent on the recordings, but I'm not convinced they are $700 better than the VR. Additionally, the VR is easy to use, and for live performances, it's tough to beat. I'm not sure if Digitech has changed the VR during the past two years, but the first one I heard did not sound nearly as good as the current model--that's why I upgraded from the midi-Vocalist.

Cheers,

Gary

Tony,
Try the new TC Quintet or Voice works - they are a bit cheaper than the Prisim, and sound great. Overall - TC beats the Digitech for features and quaity of sound ..... it's just a budget choice, really. The Digitech is fine, the TC is better.

Btw: As I'm now exclusively using the 'built in' vocalizer in my Yamaha Tyros, I'm now offering my Digitech Vocalist Workstation EX for sale. Includes 60+ page owners manual. Willing to let it go for $275 or BEST offer. Buyer to cover shipping. If interested, email me at: scott@scottyee.com

Scott .. for the interest of others, have you programmed any of your 'own' harmony combinations, and are they resident on the EX? ....
