Donny,

That exclamation mark is an indicator that there is a conflict with another device. There are a few things I need to know in order to help.

1. Which version of windows are you running?
2. Is your sound card an onboard card, or is it separate from the mother board?
3. If it's separate, there's a chance that it is loose from the socket, and therefore, the computer cannot detect it.
4. If the card is a plug and play, and assuming it is not defective, merely uninstall the sound card using the control panel, then turn off the computer, remove the card and reboot. Shut the computer down again, re-install the sound card and reboot. Your computer should find the sound card and re-install it with different settings so there is no conflict.

Hope this helps! If not, I'll drive up next week, bring a couple dozen crabs, a case of beer, a bottle of Kahlua and try to figure it out.

Gary

ok ......I just took off the cover and checked the sound card for a loose connection....its seems to be in the socket properly and tight.....
Then I started the pc again but I get a blue screen on start up that reads.....

"The SBPCI interrupt has been routed incorrectly by the system use the automatic settings in the device manager"

now what?

Well, at least the computer found the card!
Have you installed anything else lately?
I would remove the card, then reboot. Since it won't see the card, there shouldn't be an interupt request conflict.
If so, then reinstall the card and see if the computer assigns it to the correct channel this time.

And if removing and replacing the card doesn't make the system reallocate an unused interrupt then you can always try removing the hardware device entry in the Hardware Device Manager and try reinstalling. Though there is no reason that a card that was previously working with its assigned IRQ should suddenly have problems. But installing another device could cause this sort of a problem if you have run out of available IRQs. You can check IRQ conflicts & sharing ( which is valid in some cases ) by going to Start - Programs - Accessories and running the System Info utility which will list what is using the IRQs, so look there to see what is trying to use the same IRQ as your soundcard. It may at least pinpoint the source of the problem.
