HI ALL,
HOw about finding out who are our oldest and youngest registered forum members?
I just learned that one of our members in the Technics forum is 81.
We have a young lady here that admits to 18.
What say you?
How old are you and where do you live and does that have anything to do with it
I am 73 this month and live in San Jose, California and if I don't soon get out of this darn town it will be the end of me
How about YOU? Let us hear from you
Best to all

I'll be 65 in October, currently reside in the People's Republic of Maryland, and the older I get the colder I get. As Jimmy Buffet said "I gotta' go where it's warm1"

Fran,

Considering that most folks graduate high school at age 17, does this mean you were born in 1917? Nah, you look older than that.

Third highest cost of living in the US after New York, and San Francisco.
Median home price is now pushing 600,000.00. that could be a fixer upper.
Too many people. 1 million in the city. 2 million in the county. 20 million in the area.
The rich people get richer and the poor people get poorer. No much of a middle class here.
Politics are dirty.
I could go on and on but no point. I thnk you can get a feel from what I wrote here.
However the weather is a lot better then in Medina

L, me too..I did a party last night..I asked if they[Country Club} had a handicap entry location[you know, a ramp]...they said yes..
I loaded my gear on my new Rock n Roller cart[about 350 lbs worth], went to the ramp...what were they thinking, this ramp was at nearly 45 degrees[far from legal], and extended about twenty feet...What a work out pushing this load uphill...all the time wondering what I would do if I didn't make it to the top landing....{runnaway train, back down the ramp, and no stopping it]...If I had to go another 5 feet it was over..

We need some younger guys to carry on the Arranger tradition.
BTW, I wonder what happened to those two young brothers. Uncle Dave arranged for them to get a new PSR from Yamaha. Was it Ryan?

Gettin' close to 64 (May 30). By the ages I see here, most you you remember that was the REAL Memorial Day. Never have worked on my birthday in my life.

I live near Prescott, WI which is on the MN-WI border where the confluence of the Mississippi and St. Croix take place. About 35 min. from MSP Airport.

By the way, I get my 3000 tomorrow.

About a year ago, Ryan called me direct and asked, since we were so generous with the kb, if we had any connections for his Mom to get a "NEW" car ... for free. That was it for me. I never talked to him after that. Seems we did a nice thing and spoiled them into thinking that they could get anything they needed, just by playing the 'needy" card. I was really disapointed after that call. I hope they don't turn into people who use others to get whay they want.

I hear what you're saying, Dave. Last year, I helped a young friend of one of my children with a hospital bill, and got her a job at a friend's company. She called me not to say thanks (never did), but to ask for money to buy new clothes to wear to work.

Last week I bought a TV for a young man who was my father-in-law's roommate at a nursing home. He had asked for one, since he was moving into a room without one. Yesterday, he told me he sold it, and was going to get a used one somewhere.

I can't tell you how many times someone has needed money, equipment, vehicle loans...whatever. Most never repay money. If I get vehicles or equipment back that is damaged, it's just my bad luck.

It's hard sometimes to separate the truely deserving from the hustlers.

Russ and Dave, You guys deserve more than that. I cant even think of taking something from somebody else with out saying a general thanks. I cant even take money from my Mom, family, whatever. It just doesnt seem right taking money from others when you have done nothing to deserve it.

Hi Wazza,

See, you just discovered something. Most of us er . . . 'mature' folks on here don't come across as older because the music keeps us young, and it'll work for you just as well.

Most of us are children of the sixties and that means we go on forever - well, until the joints get a bit creaky when loading the gear in and out of gigs, that is. You'll see enough comments on here about that, so that's the big giveaway. Anyway, keep on rockin'!

Looking through this thread I look to be the oldest (that admits to it) at a mere 79 for a few more months.. Surely there must be someone else of greater veneration lurking somewhere in the shadows..If so PLEASE come out.. I can't stand the pressure!! 'Course it would be nice if some of you youngsters could offer to lug my gear around for me but I am afraid that you all live too far away. Perhaps a small donation or two to help me hire a Roadie!!
Ah! well, it was worth a try..........

Phil,
When all this started a few years ago, the twins were really appreciative. (sp?)
Many zone members chipped in and we bought a bunch of accesories to go along with the kb that George Kaye helped convince Yamaha to donate to this famlily, who was in a time of financial crisis.
We did this on our own - the kids never asked for anything, and they were dripping with words of thanx for long after the gift was given.
They changed their tune afer a while though, and that's what really soured me. I don't regret getting involved in it, because it was still a nice thing to do, and it made us ALL feel pretty good to help out. I just hate thinking that we created a "greedy" monster.
I'm trying to look at it with some separation, and just hope that maybe these kids will remember it in later years, and pass on the gesture to someone else in need.

The outpouring from zone members was AWESOME. I recieved gear, money, and offers to help in many ways..... all of which were packaged up and sent to the twins. The effort was very, very charitable and the members that participated all came together as one to help a (2)brother(s) out.
We never looked for repayment, but I sure never expected a request for a new car!

Well Dave, How did you expect them to haul all that gear and money around without a car. C'mon now, the least you could have done was give them a new car so they could go out and make a living with all that new gear. Just think they might have even hired you when they got rich and famous
to drive their Limo, fly their airplane, captain their yacht. Say, they weren't from Tupelo, Mississippi were they
Oh well, at this age we all live and sometimes even learn but it sure is hard on the next fellow that comes along
Best to all

Wow! I always wondered what happened with those boys after all those donations. It will all come back to them eventually. I'm one of the younger ones, but no where near the youngest. Lets just say I'm older than 28, but not over 30 I'm often told I look way younger than I really am.

The twins, Ryan and Robbie, had their own website where they posted some of their compositions. They were into writing and producing theme music such as is heard in major motion pictures. I don't have the URL anymore, but the music they produced was dramatic and sounded sounded very professional.

UD did a fantastic job of coordinating the donation project. I, for one, have no regrets about helping out.

I sure have a problem referring to you as UNCLE DAVE when you are younger then most, if not all my 8 kids. Happy Birthday and have a great day when it gets here and the year to follow.
Forget Redheads. I was married to a couple of them and they aint that big a deal
I will say one thing, though I sure do admire your work. I just put one of your MP3's (Just a Gigalo), along with Don Mason's and some of the otherguys here to play in my car where I can really give them a critical ear, and it is just really fine work. Good as it gets,
Best to you Happy Early Birthday when it gets here

Thanx Bebop!
That "Gigolo" track was made within the FIRST hour with my PA80! I heard the pattern and it was right on the money, so I plugged in a mic, never touched any settings and recorded it in one take. After I heard how good the drums sounded, I went to a ballad and recorded the Sinatra thing .... what was it.... Oh yeah, "All my tomorrows" - same deal - no tweaking on the mic, no arranger playing on this track. I did manual bass.
That kb has great sounds. I miss it sometimes........but since Florida - I haven't missed the redhead!
(Maybe Maureen will surprise me with a "Henna" job one day!)

Well I'm 50 now born in 1954 the same year as the Fender Stratocastor and I still play one even now ( 39 when I started Synth Zone ... 51 coming up soon ) but what the hell age doesn't matter at all. Especially on an online forum like this where we are all the same. It's all in the way you think. We have members here that range from 15 - 80+ and that's what I love about this community. We get input from all age groups and no-one cares how old the other members are but just what sort of people they are. And I think the mix of ages just adds a better variety of opinions and ideas than if we were all from the one generation. It's a good thing having younger enthusiasm and experimentation combined with maturity and experience. We can only benefit from it.

Besides musicians have a different attitude towards age than the general public. When I was 13 and learning to play guitar I had the same respect and admiration for my peers at the time like The Beatles, Stones and Hendrix as I did for Django Reinhardt from the 30s and Charlie Christian with Benny Goodman in the 40s. And even today I love hearing new artists and I don't care whether they are older or younger than me, just what sort of music they create.

It's all about the music !!!

Hey Nigel and Uncle Dave - I just turned 50, too! Born in 1955. It was a magical year all right. It's also the year Disneyland opened.

At a bar down in Dallas an old man chimed in, and I thought he was out of his head.
Just being a young man I just laughed it off when I heard what that old man had said.

He said I'll never again turn the young ladies’ heads, or go running off into the wind.
I'm three quarters home from the start to the end, and I wish I was 18 again.

Hey Nigel, nice smiley! :-)))
Am I allowed to use this gimmick on my own homepage???

I was born in november 1967 in Frankfurt where I'm living until today. I started playing accordion as a 4 years old youngling. This lead to my instantly wish to learn piano. Unfortunality there was no way for me to do so and so the years passed by.
As I was 15 a friend put a accoustic guitar in my hands and showed me 3 finger positions. The rest came from myself - I played only accoustic guitar since 5 years before I started playing on a strat. About 10 years later I bought my first own synth (a K2000R) and then a keyboard was needed. A Yamaha V-50 followed. And with my HD recording system I came into a level that I wanted to reach from the first time on. ;-)

Am I good and worthy enough to get legacy of arranger tradition? I don't know...let me hear you boys'n'girls!!! ;-)

And hey I also love the blues tones of a Les Paul! ;-)

HI ALL,
How about some more of you signing in to this thread, let us know your age, where you live, what you play and etc.
I for one find all your posts very interesting as it is great to learn about each other and even though we are the same in some ways we are very different in others, often dependent on where we live/and or grew up. Different customs I think
Let us hear from you. Every one has lots to share and this is a good place for it. Let's learn about each other and the difference in our respective customs

Another year has passed
And we're all a little older.
Last summer felt hotter
And winter seems much colder.

There was a time not long ago
When life was quite a blast.
Now I fully understand
about "Living in the Past"

We used to go to weddings,
Football games and lunches.
Now we go to funeral homes,
And after-funeral brunches.

We used to have hangovers,
From parties that were gay.
Now we suffer body aches
And while the night away.

We used to go out dining,
And couldn't get our fill.
Now we ask for doggie bags,
Come home and take a pill.

We used to often travel
To places near and far.
Now we get sore butts
From riding in the car.

We used to go to nightclubs
And drink a little booze.
Now we stay home at night
And watch the evening news.

That, my friend is how life is,
And now my tale is told.
So, enjoy each day and live it up...
Before you're too damned old!

One of the things I have noticed in the many years I have been here at the synthzone and also while I was moderator of the technics forum and getting that going, is:
1. a majority of members in the technics forum that are technics owners are in the uk and europe.
2. a majority of members in the general arranger forum that seem to be Yamaha owners are in the US.
Have you noticed this also.
Any ideas why this is?
Is it strictly marketing or are there some underlying reasons that I am not getting.
What say you??

I will soon turn 56.
IMHO you see more yammies in the US because they are easier to find.
You can start out with the lower priced PSR's at almost any Dept. store. (k-mart, sears, Best Buy) You can start out for a hundred bucks when you outgrow that machine you can spend a couple hundred more for an improvement. And you don't have to learn a whole new machine.
Most other brands the low end is 5 or 600 hundred dollars and then it upgrades to a couple thousand with not much in between.

Hiya Everyone Ive been lurking around for a few days and thought I better say Hello.
Im Anne aged 40 and the proud owner of a recently aquired Tyros. I live in Manchester England and have been playing keyboards on and off for the last 25 years or so. Never learned to read music properly though. I found this group quite by accident and this just looked like a good place to jump in

It's great to see you found your way here Anne. You will find a number of other users of the Tyros on the General Arranger Forum and just use the "Search" link and enter Tyros to read all the previous postings on topics that may interest you.

I don't know because I'm using a Yamaha V-50 for hacking the keys and I'm living in Germany what lies well known in Europe...

For sound creation I'm basically using a Kurzweil K2000RS with 8MB ROMpler and 64MB RAMpler. So I have all - ROMpler, RAMler and FM synthesis.

I got to thinking, which at my age can be somewhat dangerous, about a fun song that I often use for birthday parties. Just thought I'd share them with the forum members. It's an upbeat country song that is real easy to perform and makes the birthday parties a lot more fun.

ANOTHER YEAR OLDER, ANOTHER BUDWISER

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS MUG
NOW IT'S BEECHWOOD AGED
THEY CALL ME THE KING OF BEERS
CAUSE I'M QUITE A CASE
WHAT USED TO BE A SIX-PACK
NOW LOOKS LIKE A CASE
SO MUCH FOR THE THEORY
ABOUT MY HOLLOW LEG

CHORUS:
NOW I'M ANOTHER YEAR OLDER
ANOTHER BUDWISER
ONE MORE YEAR IN THE CAN
I ANIN'T GETTIN' ANY YOUNGER
I AIN'T DEAD YET, EITHER
JUST ANOTHER YEAR OLDER
ANOTHER BUDWISER

I USED TO SET MY WATCH BY MILLER TIME
I WON THE PABST BLUE RIBBON
THE HINIKIN MANEUVER DIDN'T SAVE MY LIFE
YOU SEE, THERE WAS SOMETHING MISSIN'
I'M SURE I'VE TAPPED THE ROCKIES
AND CHANGED A WHOLE LOT OF TUNES
BUT THEN A MAN, A DOG AND A COUPLE OF FROGS
WOULD TURN ME ON TO THIS BREW

CHORUS:

SEEMS THE OLDER I GET
THE BETTER I WAS
SO HERE'S TO ME AND MY HISTORY
ANOTHER ROUND OF BUD

CHORUS:

(ENDING) WHEN YOU BUDWISER, YOU'VE SAID IT ALL...

Enjoy,

Gary

Mike, I am sure you are right. You have hit is dead center. Thank you for your insight.

Sheriff, I know what ram and rom is but what is ramler and rompler?

Anne, Welcome to my World. This is a song that Don Mason sings so well. Get a copy from him and you will melt.

Gary, neato song. Sure would like to hear you sing it. How about an upload

Carrie, Welcome to the bar. It is nice to have some young ladies join us. What keyboards do you have/play?

This post is getting pretty long and slow. Maybe it is time to start a new one or maybe just close it up. What say Boss Nigel?

Oh, well, that's absolutely easy to explain...but I don't know it too. I just thought it would sound very cool...

EDIT: Well, now I know it I'm afraid...
With a ROMpler I meant a ROM-player
in order to a RAMpler with which I meant a RAM-player (that's always the same like a sampler). Okay, next time I'll use a more known vocabulary...
I can't speak english (like you can see in all my postings) but I tried to speak a cool english. What's on with me? Okay, I'm learning to tune up my english...

Sheriff, believe me your English is a lot better than my German, and in many instances, your English is better than some who reside in the U.S.. Whoops! Almost forgot--we speak American--not English. (I was told that by a friend who resides in the UK.)

Cheers,

Gary

My husband and I always get into that argument Gary. He always tells me I speak 'American' not English. I always tell him he speaks 'Yorkshire', which believe me, doesn't sound a whole lot like English at times. LOL!

Cassp,
It is great that you get to retire at 54. That should give you a lot of years to do a lot of fun things.
I conclude you must be an 8th grade teacher up there in Michigan. I always felt the 8th grade was my best year through school including college. I went to a country school that had 8 grades and the principal was our teacher. He remained my friend until he died a couple of years ago.
Happy retirement and best to you,
Bebop

George,

As you are well aware, those of us that are self employed cannot retire until at least 3 days after we're dead. And, rigormortis must be setting in, and we must be smelling bad. If those conditions are not met, you must go back to work.

Cheers,

Gary

I'm 19 (turning 20 in October) and I live in Osby, a small town in the south of Sweden.

Then you might could see Denmark on clear days, couldn't you? How is the weather in your area today? Is it still cold or is it growing warmer like in Germany?

Well, I'm not living by the coast, and not so far to the south, so I can't see Denmark . We've had pretty warm weather for some days (14-20 degrees) but today it's rainning and only 11 degrees.
