Hey folks, im looking to upgrade my pc and just need some advice. Basically all I need is soundcard and cpu advice, I'll fill in the rest later.

Soundcard: Maudio delta 44.

The reason ive chosen this card (aside from the main reason that it suits my needs) is because I've heard they've got great driver support. If you bag this card please note I live in OZ so some cards you've had good history with in the states might not even be sold here.

CPU: Hmmm
Thinking about some specialist technology like hyperthreaded or dual cpu's. ALso if anybody knows much about 64bit architectures coming up, namely when people will start distributing progs compiled for IA64 and what ClawHammer/SledgeHammer/Whatever is supposed to be like etc.
-Are any of the softsequencers multithreaded?

Video Card: Matrox g550 or maybe even parhelia just because I've heard that 2d quality and frame rate is second to none but I've only read this. If anybody has seen a g550 or parhelia against another card tell us about it. Do they make that much difference?
PS. i dont give a turd about games.

NO FLAMES plz

Go with a fast P4 and exessive amounts of RAM and you're set for music apps. A nice HD is good too, like the Barracuda V Special Edition from Seagate. Graphics don't really matter that much, unless you play games. Parhelia sucks compared to Geforce or Radeon. The supreme 2d quality is just hype and marketing. You need parhelia if you plan on usin 3 monitors, but not otherwise.

I'm using two monitors. One with a GF3Ti500 and one with an old GF2mx400. It's great to be able to move things into the 2nd screen. It works as extra desktop space. You'll need XP pro for this. Some GF cards can have two screens attached to them, but they'll share the same graphics memory and CPU.

Jiddu,
Hi. I have also been thinking about the new 64 bit computers. I suspect it is the reason why hardware prices have fallen so drastically. Manufacterers need to get rid of most of their 32 bit products before going into 64 bit completely. The transition may take some time but computers should be able to naturally proccess data twice as fast with the same clock speed than the current 32bit. Most soft sequencing proggies are already multi threaded, and that is a big plus since supposedly 64 bit windows concentrates controls down to individual proccess threads. If only my health lately was not heavily affecting my budget I might have even tried messing with one

I'm pretty lost as far as the delta 44 card. LOL One of my friend's parents quite some time ago had a Delta 88 though. Something totally different...a beastly 5 MPG Oldsmobile it was. It's likely to be the recycled metal of about 16-20 Toyotas on the road today. LOL that thing was a real barge.

I bet the delta 44 should work great for ya. Like anything, it might take some getting used to at first
