I have a problem with my new midiman audiophile 2496 card. Windows xp keeps telling me that I can´t use the card(Code 10). I have tried drivers from the driver CD that came with the card and I have also tried drivers that I have downloaded from midiman webpage. Nothing seems to work. What I am doing wrong here.

It's not you're fault . That's what Windows does best . Windows XP has a LOT of driver problems not to mention the fact that it's running atleast 20 sub operations most of which conflict with each other . So I don't get all the PC people in a wad about recommending Mac ( which I should do anyway ) . Most of my friends who punish themselves with using windows , they use 98se , or 2000 . They seem to have less crashes and less driver problems then . Rest assured that with XP you're nightmares have only just begun . The Audiophile 2496 runs better on a slightly older OS . Try that and also contact MIdiMan to see if maybe they can walk you through some trouble shooting .

Ok thanks. Can you recommend me other soundcard than audiophile 2496 with similar kind of technical specs and which will work better in windows xp environment. in about same price range.

If you're computer has USB ports , you might take a look at the Tascam US-224 . It will use you're USB port to send in and out audio as well as providing a controller .

I dont claim to know much about audiocards 800dv so when I say this Im almost asking for correction:

Arent USB soundcards a no-go cos the data transfer rate is just too slow? much slower than pci.

In the begining , yes you would have been quite right . However , they do work nearly flawlessly on Macs ( a little latency ) . Windows is such a poor OS that it can't keep up with USB as well as Mac . But , Windows XP is supposed to come as close to the Mac OS as it possibly can . I'ts still a poor OS but it does promise so much more than the Windows of the past . The new USB audio devices are better made and they took a little more time to correct any problems ( not all , but most ) .

Don´t have USB, only PCI..

I had problems with a lot of my music programs running XP. I overcame some code 10 installs by making sure the virus programs[Mcafee and Norton] were disabled..Give it a try..Also ,you can select backwards compatibility to 98 to install a 98 program[techs shy from this procedure]...

All of my friends that use PCs , they all use a slightly older OS like 98se , 2000 , or NT . None of them use XP , it's just to unreliable . If you're machine does not have USB , is it an older machine ? If it is then you should not use XP at all , you simply don't need it . Try using 98se or 2000 .
