Your analysis is right on. I have a s910 and had a PRS 3000 before that. I've spent the better part of a year trying to get the Yamaha to sound some what like the KN7000. Perhaps in another year I'll get fairly close, however the nightmare that Yamaha calls a sequencer is beyond any hope of saving. The keyboard is easy to move around and many of the styles are very good. The styles I really like I transfer to my true love, the KN7000.

Please do not try to make a s910 sound like your Kn7000 – It will not happen, nor would it even come close.

THE SECRET:
Use the s910 as it is designed to be used.
Examples:
50’s S910
Glenn Miller Kn7000
Disco S910
All Big Band Kn7000

Because I have started playing out again I am looking for a used S910.
1-It is by far lighter
2-A built in Vocal Harmony
3-Plays Mps easily
4-Plays Midi Files easily with additional features.
5-The sound of the keyboard seems to blend to contemporary music.

1-For my important jobs I will use the Kn7000.
2-For my personal home use I will use the Kn7000
3-The sound of the Kn7000 is pure quality.
4-The composer and the Sequencer are superior.
5-And here’s the BIG ONE – I so enjoy playing it.
6-The second BIG ONE – The desire to play -- it makes me want to play pure beautiful music -–and it is so friendly.

Again, once more, this is only my opinion.

I have EWO cards in the Kn and I can get some great sounding fifty's music. with doo wop sounds and vocal backings, plus the great backgound strings that were in a lot of the music.
I also got a bunch of Rhythms on a SD card that I purchased from Walt Tenay, when the KN,s were still in the running.

We are almost on the same track. With your new voices you certainly can get closer to the 50’s sound. But there is another view and it takes in the big picture – the keyboard as a single unit. The overall sound, although can be enhanced to sound a bit different, still favors a basic type of sound. All the styles and all the sounds produce a type of sound and in Yamaha’s case is it the sound of contemporary music. Yamaha has done this intentionally to stay with the market.

Opinion’s I have heard”
1-Yamaha has a great sound but it does sound like a CD. (Too perfect)
2-Korg has more of a live band sound. (Not as perfect but it’s live)
3-Roland is closer to Korg.
4-Technics is old but closer to perfect then the rest. (I put that in) (Smile)

You really can't take a PSR3000 or a PSRs-910 which are middle of the line and then think you can compare your KN7000 to it and then decide you don't want a Tyros 4 because of the sound.

I mean think about it, you can buy those PSR's for less than the KN7000's original wholesale, which was $2400 BTW.

The PSR's never ever sound anywhere near a Tyros. Some sounds are close but but many sounds are not on both or have a major difference in sound.

I have not heard the S910 live but from what I've heard it's a major upgrade in sound in the PSR line, but it doesn't sound like the Tyros 4!!!

That's like saying I'm going to decide if I'm going to buy a Chrysler 300 by test driving a Dodge Neon and compare it with my old Cadillac.

To my memory, and it is vague at times, isn't the total watts of the PRS 910 speakers only 2x 12 watts = 24 watts and the Kn7000 about a total of 65 watts. So better amp and speakers always improves what is good anyway; so just in that, not a fair comparison. BTW I had a kn5000 and loved it to bits.

I enjoyed this topic – It just keeps telling me how much the KN 7000 is loved. I have joined the group that may in the future purchase a new keyboard but will not depart with their KN7000. I sold three KN7000 and bought four. This one stays.
