Nowadays there are so many software titles that I don't even know which one to get.
Now I'm looking at this Sonar thingy and it doesn't really explain what it is. Its by the people who made Cakewalk but what is the difference ???

Basically I want a software package that can do the following:

1. Sequence Midi
2. Record Digital Audio
3. Allow PC Samples (wav's and so on, on my harddrive) to be triggered by my external keyboard and sequenced into the song I'm working on.

What software package can do this ?

find out about SONAR at www.cakewalk.com. It has replaced Cakewalk Pro Audio as far as I can tell.

I did go to the site and the explanation of the package was not clear. (I don't know if thats the right term)
The thing is ...they didn't really explain the difference between Sonar and Cakewalk. I guess thats why you said that it is replacing Cakewalk ... ???

They had a side by side comparison at one time. It is probably still on the site but you would have to do a search. But as you can see...no more CAKEWALK PRO AUDIO. http://cakewalk.com/Products/
Here is a comparison with Home Studio 2002..http://cakewalk.com/homestudio/hs02-vs-sonar.html...just plug in Pro Audio for comparisons.

Interesting... I guess it must've been the name that made them drop it.

I mean, would YOU wanna be seen using a piece of software called Calkwalk?

I also have always wondered about that, but it's been around for years, and still is for that matter (the company is Cakewalk, the product is Sonar).

Hope the clone disease isn't spreading . . .

Nice QUAD post, Eq. I mean I've seen double posts before but this is something new

I would be proud to be seen using Cakewalk Apprentice if the damn thing would work on anything else than Windows 3.11.

Cakewalk's SONAR program is basically an upgrade to their Pro Audio/sequencing series. It does MIDI sequencing and audio recording, but the biggest advance is that it now can use "virtual" VST/DXi instruments and work with the latest low-latency Windows drivers. The reviews say it's very stable and nearly crash-proof. If you are serious about learning more about SONAR, do a web search using Goggle.com and enter in "Cakewalk Sonar review", and you'll find many good articles on what this program is about.

http://askjeeves.com/main/askjeeves.asp?ask=compare+Cakewalk+Pro+Audio+and+Sonar&o=0

looks like Cakewalk deleted all of the comparison pages of Pro Audio vs. SONAR.

On Eq post:

I still have a old version of Cakewalk (3.0?)
with the logo of a "cake with legs"(!). At that time Cakewalk Software was called Twelve Tone Systems.
Who would use a sofware that have a logo like that? Worst: think of a T-shirt...

I would. Apprentice was the best. So easy to use and you got things done. Digital Orchestrator is almost as simple.

Mgomes-
I certainly agree with you there. A cake with legs has gotta be the crappiest logo I've ever heard of.
