If you should receive an email with the subject "Statement of Fees 2008/2009", together with a 'ZIP' attachment, delete it immediately. When the attachment is unzipped and opened, it looks as if it is a Word document but it is NOT! It is an executable file.

It has a nasty Trojan Horse Virus within the attachment and the only way to get rid of it, is a re-format of your Hard Disk drive and re-installation of Windows and all your programs. So the chances are you will lose everything on your PC, including all your music files, photographs etc. - unless you have your hard disk partitioned and all your personal files stored on the non-windows partition

Some Anti Virus programs will detect the Virus but do not seem to be able to remove/clean it. In addition to generally 'screwing up' your PC, it also disables the Windows XP 'System Restore' facility, so you can't cure the problem by reverting to an earlier working condition.

This is Genuine and worth passing on!
I Know! - I've just spent a whole day cleaning up a friends PC, after he foolishly opened the attachment

If you’re using 2000, XP or Vista you can use the Recovery console to gain access to the file before Windows starts, and then just delete the file.
If its not already been loaded, then it can be accessed using the OS disks; proceed as if you are installing or re-installing Windows but choose the R (Recovery) mode to access the console, and then use command mode. (If your not sure what commands to use just type help (If you are used to DOS you will have little problem adapting to the NTFS version)
Hope this helps
