Hi.

Ketron SD2 or any soundmodules who are midi compatible (i.e. GM/GM2,GS or XG)
can be connected and used by other midicompatible devices, such as keyboards,
midiaccordions or pianos etc.
But it's usually not "plug and pray", some setup needs to be done to make it
work properly.

Happy Playing

Jack,
Look at this dutch site, they make also the specific software to use the SD2 with a KN7000. http://www.muziekhuisdera.nl/show_product.php?prod_id=390&selectie=4&ag=Modules/Expanders

I have a KN7000 and an SD2 module. I use it with my Axiom controller to play it's GM and extended banks(3). I also use it for GM midi files. The sounds are great.

I wish I knew Dutch to see what they are talking about.

This Ketron SD2 sound module box must be connected on the "midi input" and will give you 256 new Ketron sounds under the "right2" button of your KN7000
Price : 399,- euro

Hi Jack
Thanks, I'll give it a whirl if I can figure out how to change banks and programs with the KN7000. It is a snap with a controller.

You can read about the SD2 in english here: http://www.makingwavesaudio.com/prodidividual.asp?Manufacturer=KETRON

The price is around 450$

Thanks, perhaps I was unclear. I have an SD2 already. I was curious as to how it was being used with the KN7000.

It is simple enough to hookup with midi cable, but choosing banks and programs is something else. The SD2 doesn't respond to LSB,just MSB.

There is no question that many of the insruments are superior(IMO)to anything I have heard in hardware.

Hey chaps - is this really so different to just loading a midi file direct into your KN7000, may I ask?

Hi Rog
Maybe I'm missing your point, but how is it the same ? I mean,it has default bank 1, which is a multi-timbral GM soundset, albeit superior quality. It has three additional banks, one of which appears to be an extended GM set. Also, a preset bank and drumkits. In addition to this, there are great drumloops.

To access via the KN7000, is beyond my capability.

Hiay Bernie
Now I'm confused too - I think we better talk about this at the end of March at the Florida Convention cos I've never heard of this implement before and I can't understand what it does that the keyboard itself cannot do...
Best wishes
Rog

Bernie and Roger,

Not being the pro and expert of you two dudes, I do not use anywhere near the capability built into the 7000 machine.

Look forward to a great demo by Bernie at the Jam.

The SD2 is simply a compact sound module from Ketron, using the new SD5 engine. The banks of sounds are accessable from computer sequencers, and other midi keyboards to enhance or layer sounds already available.

Hi,
sure you can, but if you don't have i.e. any masterkeyboard or other midisource
to control the SD2 it won't do much to please your ears.

Cheers

You can use the module as a slave from your keyboard. It comes with all the midi implmentation and sysex tables. You can also download a PDF manual with instrument lists, including MLB and value #'s.

Anyone used to handling program changes via midi messages shouldn't have a problem accessing these voices.
