I don't know about forever, but I still have my KN7000 and continue to enjoy it as much as the day I got it.

I am still amazed at new new musical tools I find on the Kn7000. I don't think I will ever knew it all, and hence, will never part with it.

Still got mine, close call though as I was going to sell it to get the Tyros 2. At the last moment I couldn't do it, told the wife no housekeeping fo 6 months and now have two keyboards!!

The Jaybirds are all faithful to their respective 7000s. We all hope you other faithful 7000 enthusiasts are enjoying the work we do for you for this fabulous instrument. I, for one, will keep mine for as long as I am able to move my fingers over the keys!

I to love my Kn7000 . As a pro player mainly for the Sequence dancing it's got some good distinct sounds and Styles. I have played and heard a demo of the tyros 2 and yes it has some nice Organ sounds, but sorry i am a 7000 fan. Technics had been going for a long time, and i am sure we will keep this forum going likewise. Chris.

I too have no inclination to change my KN7 in fact, with a view to the future when it becomes completely obsolete, I bought a near new KN7 from a friend who had rushed out to get his new "toy" and I DO NOT REGRET IT FOR ONE MOMENT. However, I have a question for you all:-

Why is it that KN7 No.1 (my original) and Kn7 No.2 whilst identical in every way, sound so different even when using my own setups loaded to No.2 via the SD Card?

I have looked and compared each keyboard's settings like for like and can find no reason for this. They are both ver.3

It isn't a problem though because both are excellent keyboards. I'm just curious as to why this should be?

I hear all the comments about your affection for the Kn7000, I feel they are sincere and valid.

My experience;
Sold my Kn7000 about six months ago – then a bought the Tyros 2. If I were going to continue to play professionally it would have been a good choice. The keyboard is good, but not for the music I enjoy playing. The overwhelming bass and drums and lack of clarity favors today’s music I am not there.

The origin of my favorite music was the organ concerts where artists played big band, classical, and quality music my opinion) from the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and some of the fifties. At poolside in our club house you would always hear the greats –Sinatra – Ella- ect. It has been replaced with others types of music, nice but not for me.

On the Tyros 2 there are so many areas that you can be change to get the sound that you want but they are only variations of the same basic sound of the original instrument. --- You can’t make a cow sound like a dog –Wow, what a bad analogy. Again this is my opinion – When I owned the Kn7000 I could not get the Kn7000 to have the sound that they are looking for today so I made the change to Yamaha. I was right about the keyboard choice but wrong about the music I enjoy/love.

If you listen to the Yamaha demos, both with and without vocals you will understand.

I am now in the process of selling my six-month-old Tyros 2 keyboard and replace it with ????? I am not sure.
Anyone know if there is a Kn7000 for sale?
I know the Wersi product would be a great choice, but the dollars, aaaaah.

Totally agree with Audry,we also now have 2 KN's. Had a slight hiccup with a switch playing up a while ago, so after getting it fixed I found a near new one for sale and captured it!! The beauty of this is that we can leave the one we take out on gigs in it's travel bag and just swap the SD card over to the rehersal board which remains permanantly set up at home
Also tried a Tyros about 12 months ago. In store demo sounded good, but luckily did not trade in the KN. playing them side by side in the same room was chalk & cheese.My keyboard player ( Wife ) mutinied. Also tried KN2600, lighter but not as easy for gigging or organising My thoughts anyway.

Let me start with "Yes, the KN7000 is a great keyboard" And it is the Rolls Roycs of keyboards maybe. However technology goes on. Technics stops making intruments, the R&D manager is bought by Yamaha, and as result some Technics technology is implemented in Tyros-2. When comparing Tyros-1 with Tyros-2 you notice that difference very clearly. For the rest it maybe is a matter of choice. I love ballad styles and on KN7000 there are some nice ones, like "Animation, Orch. Ballad and such" But in comparison Tyros: approx. 50 ballad styles, all very useful.

I have my Tyros-2 nearly 2 months now. I still need to learn a lot of the intrument. On my website, http://vision-4-life.nl, on the Interests page you can find mp3's of my music. I have some KN7000 music still and some new Tyros-2 music. You can clearly hear the difference. And I even have video on my website now. Watch the link on the "Vision for Life" page.

The first day I looked at the KN7000 I remarked 'Wow'. Having played all the others, I still believe the KN7000 still has the 'Wow'. Just open your key bag and put it on its stand, what do the punters think? ....No competition.

The various comments you all make are good and constructive and I have to admit, I have been tempted once or twice. Firstly, I was interested in the Korg PAX1 Pro as when I heard this being played, I instantly recognised some of the Technics styles, but when I saw the latest keyboard, I realised they are using rubber-type pressure buttons and a touch-screen which has put me off completely. Before retiring, I worked for a large Bank and we had PCs made up similarly and I found the buttons in particular could not be relied upon to make instant contact. If your hands were hot or the screen had a speck of dust, sometimes they would not work at all or would be slow in making contact. Imagine the embarrass-ment playing for dancing and hitting a style button which does not make instant contact? Another factor is some keys/
buttons are prone to wear in the same place when used regularly.

I received a DVD from Yamaha demonstrating the Tyros 2. I have to say, I was impressed as it was very well presented and I learned a great deal about the programming side of it which you do not get in a shop demon-stration. Some of the styles and sounds I thought were better than the KN7 but for me, there were very few. I really liked the idea of a hard drive facility albeit optional but whilst I can see there is a potential for preset songs (particularly for singers as the harmoniser is really impressive) I felt it wouldn't be long before we would all begin to sound alike, especially the amateurs among us.

Couple all this with the fact I have over 150 Floppies and SD Cards both professional and my own, representing hours of work and pleasure, I decided my KN7 is still my 'first love' and until there really is a keyboard on the market to beat the KN7 I'll cherish them both until they give up on me.

Hello to the group.

I havn't posted here in many moons. I sold my kn7000 in April of this year after enjoying it for a couple of years. I picked up a PA-50 to go with it and had fun mixing and matching sounds and styles with one another.
I sold both and bought the PA1XPRO and never looked back.
However, I miss the clarinet and the scat voices on the 7000 and ease of navigation. It was my first arranger after switching from the organ and will always have a place in my heart.

Being an amateur musician I have more than I can handle with the 7000. Hopefully it will out last me. At 80 I am sure it will .

The response to your post shows the popularity of the instrument. Our Florida Keyboard Convention also reflects how popular the 7000 is, as members grow each year and 96% of the boards are 7000's. Folks are still purchasing 7000s and will be joining our large group in March. The only thing that will stop the growth in ownership is finding one to buy.

Having worked in the music industry for Yamaha Dealers and having my own Technics dealership from 1990/93 and Technics keyboards for myself since, if someone asked what a KN8000 would be OK lets list:- 76 notes,nice. Voice boards as standard, nice. Impot/Export new sound wav. files when availble, 32 track Midi/Technics sequencer and 256 note poly. Yes I am Dreaming but with tis as the only true next step no wonder Technics quit while on the top !!!!!!

The KN7000 is one great keyboard, I agree. But if you compared your KN7 with the Tyros 2 (I presume it was Tyros 2) it did not get a fair trial. Once the EQ is set up on the Tyros 2 you hear a different keyboard, the comparison is no longer chalk & cheese, more like “Cheese and fine cheese”.

My concern is for those who are thinking of changing to a Tyros 2 receive a fair opinion. I have had a KN7 and a Tyros 2 in my home and the comparison is apples to pears, they’re different, both having fantastic features. My only regret is that I should have kept both keyboards, but I have one of those intellectual minds, which usually leads me astray.

I am open to question about both keyboarsds.

Fair comment,but you will note that I added that it was only my opinion. I am also a lover of the type of music that you praised in your earlier post, so I guess my reasoning was similar to yours. I think that anyone wanting to decide between different boards HAS to compare side by side, if possible for a few days at least to weigh up the pro's & con's of all facets such as sounds, rhythms, ease of navigation & editing etc before making a decision.
I note that you say your intellectual mind usually leads you astray. Funny that, my impulsive mind does exactly the same thing

It is so nice dealing with a gentleman – and yes I still feel the same, unless you are willing to spend a great deal of money there isn’t a keyboard out there that will play the kind of music I love better.

I had a man offer to trade me his KN7000 for my Tyros 2, a senior. Now you must believe this – I tried to talk him out of getting rid of his KN7000. Ha ha ha
So there is where my love lies.

Reading the comments here about the KN7000 reminds me of the good old days when I said the same think about me TRS-80 Model I Radio Shack Computer. That was about 8 computers ago. As many of you know I do not own a KN7000 and I traded my KN6000 for the PR54 piano. It has many of the sounds and features of the KN7000 but not some of the better ones like the SD card. Still I don't foresee trading it in until something REALLY new comes out. For now I just keep looking for more styles! It helps keep it new although finding new styles whether new or converted from a Yamaha is getting more difficult too.

In researching this topic on the forum it appears, John C, also spear headed the event.

There are now some brilliant keyboards around, all of which I would like to own if I had the space (and money), but nobody has yet made the perfect keyboard. I think, for most types of music, and the ease of use, that the KN7000 came closer to this title than any other. Had Technics lasted to produce the KN8000, this would probably have hit the jackpot. I could shed tears when I think my KN7 won't last for ever and will never part with it whilst it still works.

I've been in a band for 4 years in Adelaide South Australia and people who know alot about them can bullshit on about this does what and that does this but to be straight up technology can get better but if you really think sounds can get any better well you need to go out and but the actual instrument..... e.g want a sax well go buy one....shame not making anymore but hey why not end a great "note" and panasonic have..cheers GILLY
