open my computer, right click on the drive letter of the card reader, and choose format from the list.

The drive letter was the 1st thing I looked for. The highest letter I have is 'G'for a LS120 removeable drive. Song Manager is installed and working and some SMF's are on the SD card, Where to now??

plug in a SD card reader with a card and correctly installed drivers with my computer open and you can see the new drive letter appear.

yes, you need a card reader to get a drive letter because windows will recognise these as external drives. The usb connection to the 7k is a midi+audio communication link to a slave device so windows can't format a card in the 7k.

The CB7 will do all the audio tricks in the book for you, cheaper readers probably won't allow audio but should be ok to restore all the technics data backups on the compact disk to your SD card.
