July 2nd I had L4 and L5 back surgery. Before surgery my sciatica type pain was
not terrible but very irritating. Three week after my surgery I am in more pain
than before the surgery. To be honest I wish I had not done the surgery.
I have heard from several others about the same surgery and that it did them
no good at all. Anyway, I have never given up on anything and I am hoping
it eventually turns out ok.

I've heard both good and bad stories on spinal surgery. A few I know were initially depressed with bad results, but months later felt better. It's a tough decision my wife is currently contemplating. Even her doctor keeps putting it off saying let's keep trying these steroid injections. They work, but it's not permanent. Good luck Deane.

Hoping the best for you Deane. I've heard of a MILD intervention where they make a small incision to relieve pressure on the nerve. I'm also aware that Gabapentin is prescribed to address similar conditions. Have a heart-to-heart with your doctors and see what options are available. Don't give up hope, and don't ever give up!

Deane, I had L4/5 L5/S1 back surgery when I was just 35 years old. I was paralyzed from the waist down for 5 months and have not been out of pain since. 10 years later I became paralyzed again, the surgery was repeated, I was no longer paralyzed, but constantly in pain ever since. Just about every person I talked with that had spinal surgery did not have a positive outcome.

Yesterday I had my doctor follow up appointment.
The Xray was good. I was told to continue my
do nothing life routine - boring! I will see the
doctor in 6 weeks.

I'am really frustrated. I have lost a lot of lower body
strength and have to be very careful moving around.
No PT yet - might damage the metal insert in my spine.
So, no bending, leaning, or twisting once more for 6 weeks.
Wow", try that out in your life.
