Paul Carman uploaded another instructional video on the Ketron EVM Module showing how to connect this device to a Korg Pa5X.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3zVskMN9_o

1.
Make a MIDI connection.
Connect the MIDI Out of the Pa5x to the MIDI In (KEYB) of the EVM

2.
Make an Audio connection.
Use a stereo ¼” phono cable to connect the Left and Right Audio Output of the EVM into the Left and Right LINE INPUTS of the Pa5X.

3.
Set up the MIDI Channels on the Pa5X

Settings | MIDI | MIDI OUT |

Channel 1 = Upper 1
Channel 2 = Lower

Set the remaining MIDI channels 3 through 16 to OFF

Save this MIDI Preset

4.
Press the [MAIN] button.
Make sure the View is on the Buttons.
Switch on the LINE ON Button.

5.
MENU | TRACK CONTROL |

Here you can set each channel to Internal, External, Both or None.

Set:
Upper 1 = External
Lower = External

You won’t hear the Pa5X sounds when you play the Upper 1 and Lower voices. You will hear the EVM voices instead.

You can still use the Upper 2 and Upper 3 to layer the Pa5X voices over the EVM voices.

6.
Create a Song Book Entry on the Pa5X. This will remember your settings.

7.
Make the MIDI settings on the EVM

MENU | MIDI | STANDARD | EDIT

Press the [Rx] button to adjust the MIDI Receive Settings.

Right = 1
Lower = 2

Everything else should be turned off.
You want the EVM to receive MIDI signals from the Pa5X on channels 1 and 2 only.

8.
Press the [Filter] button.

Filter out these MIDI messages:

Program Change
Volume
Expression
Reverb
Chorus
Tabs

Save this Standard Preset on the EVM.

That’s all you need to do to interface the Ketron EVM to your Korg Pa5X.

Paul Carman is a brilliant tutor!

He has already uploaded 8 Tutorials on the Ketron EVM.

Sounds rather simplistic, unless I’m missing something…

Wouldn’t it be better to have each Performance in the PA5x call up a Performance in the Ketron, so whatever you want, wherever you want comes up automatically?

I’d sure like to mess with combining styles, sounds, multipads etc, so you not only get Korg’s ‘two styles at a time’ (with only some Parts enabled on each) but also get to add (or replace) some of the Parts from a Ketron style as well.

That sounds like the end of ‘style fatigue’ once and for all..! A Korg drum part from one style, a Korg electronic breakbeat from another, a Ketron percussion Part (or a loop), a Korg bassline, a Ketron guitar part, synth pads from the Korg, real horns from the Ketron, mix and match until the cows come home!

Then take the same three styles and mix and match in a different way, store as a different Performance! Infinite possibilities with just a few styles!

This just looks like you’re using the Event for sounds. What a waste! If one Performance on the Korg could call up another on the Ketron, there’s no limit to what you could do ❤️😱🎹🤩

Here is another invigorating performance by Bartek Krzemiński.

Bartek is the best demonstrator for Ketron products. His keyboard skills are out of the world. He does it with so much joy and animation.

If you ever wanted to audition the 500+ Styles on the Ketron Event, Roland Zettl has created a playlist that goes through the each one of them by Category.

Hear for yourself how much more realism you get with real drums, real bass and read chords featured in many of the Styles. These are not MIDI but actual audio recordings by studio musicians.

If you just wanted to hear one Real Style, listen to this Saxophone Player on this SAX_AMBIENT Style.

I have the Event x midi'd to my SX900. I don't have the knowledge or patience to go through the hoops that you guys are. However, for my purposes, I have both fully active and bring in sounds of both or either with the sliders and master volumes. I am over the top on the Event X and what it brings to my Yamaha. I may not do this like the big boys, but I have a heck of a lot of fun bringing whatever I think is needed from either.

Hi Bernie,

I am so happy to hear about your positive impressions on the Ketron Event X. The Real Styles sets a new benchmark on the level of realism that can be attained by an Arranger Keyboard.

Ketron makes it super easy to interface the Event X with any other keyboard. Basically all you need is to allocate 2 common MIDI channels between the two devices to marry them up.

For instance, you could allocate MIDI channel 1 for the RIGHT1 part while allocating MIDI channel 2 for the LEFT which would control the Styles.

This lets you treat one device as the master while the 2nd device becomes a sound module.

What you have done is perfectly alright too. In your setup you are free to play on both the Event X and SX900. You can control the volumes independently on both keyboards by adjusting the physical sliders. You can play a style on either keyboard. This is the perfect setup to enjoy a free jamming session.

AJ has posted 105 Tutorial Videos and Product Demos on his YouTube Channel:

Watching his videos is the fastest way to master the Ketron EVENT. He covers every single detail. I was astonished to find the level of control and unique feature set of the EVENT platform.

And that's what matters Bernie. 👍
As long as you have fun and enjoy your equipment whatever it is, that is the most important.
Have fun!

Hi Bernie,

I thought you may enjoy this spirited presentation of the Ketron EVENT 76 keyboard.
This demo explains why the $5K price tag on this Flagship product is justified.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBh7HapFsdQ

You have the Event X which is a great value at 4K. It is the same exact flagship product minus the keyboard. You have access to all the physical buttons and sliders plus the touch screen.

The most innovative product from Ketron is the new EVM module. It is the Event X minus the physical buttons and sliders with the option to add a Touch Screen as big as you want. It encapsulates 44 years of product development in Ketron’s R&D at an affordable price point of 3K.

The EVM module makes it a breeze to add the best Ketron Voices and Styles to any keyboard setup. I like the wireless integration with an iPad. This was a brilliant idea. I think the EVM will become a best seller.

AJ has posted 38 short Tutorials specific to the EVM Module:

Ketron Voices and Styles have a distinctive live feel.

Here is a cover of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” sung by Annie Roy with all orchestration coming from a single Ketron EVENT 76 keyboard arranged by Robert Messier.

Here is a cover of “Overjoyed” with all orchestration done on a single Ketron EVENT 76.
